Prince Harry’s renewed UK security review could affect the practical arrangements for family visits, but it is not confirmation that police protection has been restored—and no reviewed report confirms a visit by Archie and Lilibet to King Charles. As of The Guardian’s 14 September 2026 report, no decision had been communicated.
What has changed in Prince Harry’s UK security review?
After Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet returned to UK residency, the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) reconsidered the family’s circumstances. The Guardian reported that RAVEC had met the previous week and that new risk assessments were being conducted for Harry and Meghan. Harry had received an assessment in July, before assessors knew the family would relocate; ITV News reported that the couple were asked to provide information they considered newly relevant, including their changed residency.
ITV describes the formal review as a Risk Management Board (RMB) assessment. Meghan was to receive her first RMB assessment since 2020. These are separate assessments, and the reporting describes a review in progress—not a final decision or a published security package. The Guardian’s 14 September account and ITV News’ report do not say protection has been restored.
Has Prince Harry got his UK security back?
Not according to the cited reporting: it establishes that RAVEC is reassessing the case, not that Harry has regained round-the-clock, publicly funded police protection. The Associated Press says the decision about restoring that protection rests with RAVEC, a government panel. A review, a recommendation and a final decision are distinct stages; the available reports do not establish that the process has reached the last one.

The new review should also be distinguished from Harry’s earlier legal challenge concerning the withdrawal of automatic taxpayer-funded protection after he and Meghan stepped back from working royal roles. The Guardian reported that he lost that challenge. The 2024 High Court judgment documents RAVEC’s consideration of arrangements for particular visits and events; it is context for how visit-specific arrangements can differ from standing protection, not evidence of the outcome of the 2026 review. Read the published High Court judgment.
Who decides Prince Harry’s security in the UK?
RAVEC oversees security decisions for royals and public figures. The Associated Press identifies it as the government panel responsible for deciding whether to restore publicly funded round-the-clock police protection. Operational arrangements are handled by the relevant authorities, rather than decided by the King.
A letter sent on King Charles’s behalf reaffirmed Harry and Meghan’s status as non-working royals and directed operational security matters to police authorities. The Guardian quoted the letter describing their position as “akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.” That statement addressed status and protocol; it was not a RAVEC ruling. The Guardian’s report on the letter and the Associated Press’ explanation of RAVEC treat those responsibilities separately.
Will Archie and Lilibet visit King Charles?
There is no confirmed date or plan in the reviewed reports. A changed security assessment could affect the logistics of a visit, but “could open the door” describes a possibility, not a reported outcome. The sources do not say that King Charles arranged, funded or approved a particular security package, or that the children are guaranteed to travel.

Harry has described why he wants his children to feel at home in the UK. In a witness statement quoted by The Guardian, he said: “The UK is my home,” and added that he wants the UK to be part of his children’s heritage but cannot do that if it is not possible to keep them safe there. This is Harry’s stated concern, not an official finding about the threat level or a prediction of the review’s result.

The Associated Press reported in September 2026 that Archie and Lilibet had moved to a new school after the family discussed practical arrangements with its security team. Media accounts cited travel distance and heavy traffic on the school run as concerns. The report does not attribute the move to an order from RAVEC or say it proves a decision about the family’s protection. The Associated Press report gives the school context, not an outcome for the review.

ITV News also reported that the couple’s privately employed security personnel cannot carry guns in the UK and do not have access to MI5 and MI6 intelligence. That is ITV’s description of the reported limitations; it does not mean private security provides no protection, nor does it establish what arrangements might follow the RAVEC assessment.
