How much might Harry have received?

Was the money definitely paid on his 40th birthday?
No public confirmation established that. Coverage before and after Harry’s birthday used terms such as “could receive,” “expected to inherit” and “reportedly entitled.” Hello!, writing after the birthday, noted that it was not known whether Harry had actually received the reported £8 million.

Why might Harry’s share have been larger than William’s?
One explanation repeated in the reporting was the brothers’ different positions within the royal family. William, as heir to the throne, was expected eventually to benefit from the Duchy of Cornwall and the sovereign’s broader financial arrangements. Harry would not inherit the Crown.
According to the 2002 Guardian report, that difference may have influenced the way the trust’s money was divided, with a larger portion apparently intended for the younger son. This remains a reported rationale, not a confirmed term published from the trust deed.

This was not Diana’s inheritance
The reported Queen Mother trust should not be confused with money Harry inherited from his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. CBS reported that Harry received more than $16 million from Diana’s estate around his 30th birthday in 2014.

That earlier inheritance came from Diana’s estate. The story surrounding Harry’s 40th birthday concerned a separate trust reportedly established by the Queen Mother in 1994.
