Those figures favor Primitive War, but the sample sizes are markedly different, and Rotten Tomatoes scores can change.
What the Rotten Tomatoes comparison shows
The Tomatometer and Popcornmeter are separate measures: one reflects counted critics’ reviews, the other verified audience ratings. Rotten Tomatoes’ pages showed the following values on October 8, 2026:

On that dated snapshot, Primitive War led by 10 percentage points among critics and 15 points among verified audience ratings. The score pages report the share of counted reviews or ratings classified positively; they do not establish that one film is objectively better, explain why people responded as they did, or provide a controlled comparison. The gap in counts is especially large for audience ratings, so the percentages should be read alongside their sample sizes. Check the current Primitive War page and current Jurassic World Rebirth page for updated figures.
What the two dinosaur movies are about
Primitive War
Rotten Tomatoes lists Primitive War as a 2025 action and science-fiction film written and directed by Luke Sparke. Its story is set in Vietnam in 1968: a reconnaissance unit searches an isolated valley for a missing platoon and encounters prehistoric creatures. The page lists a U.S. limited theatrical release on August 21, 2025, a streaming release on October 3, 2025, and a runtime of 2 hours 7 minutes.
#1 Best Overall
Jurassic World Rebirth
Jurassic World Rebirth is a 2025 action, adventure, and science-fiction film directed by Gareth Edwards. Set five years after Jurassic World Dominion, it follows a world in which the remaining dinosaurs are confined to isolated equatorial environments. Rotten Tomatoes lists its U.S. wide theatrical release as July 2, 2025, its streaming release as August 5, 2025, and its runtime as 2 hours 13 minutes.
Why Rebirth still has the larger score sample
Rebirth opened in U.S. theaters first and on a wide release, on July 2, 2025. Primitive War followed with a limited U.S. theatrical date on August 21. The Rotten Tomatoes snapshot also contains far more counted reviews and verified audience ratings for Rebirth. That makes the two sets of percentages unequal in scale; it does not, by itself, prove why the films’ scores differ.
Rank #2
Rotten Tomatoes’ critics consensus for Rebirth reads: “Going back to basics with rip-roaring set pieces and fossilized clichés, Jurassic World Rebirth doesn’t evolve this prehistoric franchise but does restore some of its most reliable DNA.” This is the site’s consensus text, not a quotation from a named individual critic.
