The season keeps the franchise’s teen-mystery core but frames its threats through horror and slasher conventions. Co-showrunners Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring cited The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Midsommar as classic horror influences in comments reported by TVLine.
What is Pretty Little Liars: Summer School about?
After the harrowing events of Original Sin, the Millwood girls are confronted with summer school, summer jobs, and new romantic interests. A new villain tests them, and the central uncertainty is whether that threat is connected to A. The setup brings the characters into new summer routines without leaving behind the danger and secrets established in season one.
