Elle Fanning presented a first-look trailer for Predator: Badlands during Walt Disney Studios’ CinemaCon presentation in 2025. The studio described the film as a future-set story on a remote planet, following an outcast young Predator and an unlikely ally. The screening was an event reveal; the official public trailer was published later that July.
What was shown at CinemaCon?
At the Walt Disney Studios presentation at CinemaCon 2025, Elle Fanning joined the stage and screened what The Walt Disney Company called a “first look” at the trailer for Predator: Badlands. The studio identified Fanning as the film’s star and Dan Trachtenberg as its director. The Walt Disney Company’s event recap described the film as set in the future on a remote planet.
The event recap does not establish that the CinemaCon footage used the same edit as the trailer later released to the public. Those were separate moments: an in-person first look at CinemaCon and a subsequent official online trailer.
What is Predator: Badlands about?
The CinemaCon description follows a young Predator, outcast from his clan, who finds an unlikely ally in Thia and sets out on a treacherous search for the ultimate adversary. In a later feature, Disney identifies the Predator as Dek, played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, and Thia as a stranded robot played by Fanning. The quarry is the Kalisk. Disney’s feature on the film presents it as the first Predator Universe story centered on the Yautja and the first franchise film to make the Predator both its protagonist and an underdog; that is the studio’s framing.

Trachtenberg described the film as “a real, giant, visceral thrill ride, but it also has an enormous, heaping dose of heart and emotionality.” Schuster-Koloamatangi explained his approach to Dek: “I didn’t want to make Dek human, because he’s not human; he’s a Predator.” Both quotes are from Disney’s feature.

The July 21 date belongs to the YouTube publication record; July 23 is the date on Disney UK Press’s announcement. Neither record confirms whether its trailer edit was identical to the footage screened at CinemaCon.

When was the film released?
The CinemaCon recap announced a November 7 opening, and the 20th Century Studios film page specifies November 7, 2025 as the theatrical release date. That date has passed.
