The headline most likely refers to Practical Magic, the 1998 fantasy film starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. But the available reporting does not establish that its sequel is on Max. The sequel was announced for a theatrical release on September 18, 2026; because that date has passed, check current official listings for its release status and Max’s catalog for availability in your region.
Which ’90s cult classic does the headline mean?
The likely match is Practical Magic, a 1998 fantasy adaptation of Alice Hoffman’s novel. The film stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, whose return is the central piece of news reported about its sequel. The headline’s wording is not enough to identify the film with certainty, but this is the title that fits the available reporting.

What is known about the sequel?
A May 6, 2025 article from Creepy Catalog reported that Bullock and Kidman would return. It reproduced a Warner Bros. announcement giving the sequel a planned theatrical date of September 18, 2026. That date is now in the past, so it should not be treated as confirmation that the film opened as scheduled or that it is currently available to watch. Check Warner Bros.’ current film information or local theater and streaming listings for its present status.
Is the sequel on Max?
The cited reporting does not show that the sequel is streaming on Max. A July 31, 2026 article in Men’s Journal reported that the original Practical Magic would be added to HBO Max in August 2026. That was a report about the first film, not the sequel, and it does not verify either film’s current availability. Max’s catalog can vary by territory and change over time, so check the app or website where you live.

Should you watch the original before the sequel?
If you want to revisit the story and characters, the 1998 film is the relevant starting point. The available reporting identifies it as an adaptation of Hoffman’s novel, but does not establish how much plot or character context the sequel will assume. Watching the original is therefore a way to refresh your memory, not a confirmed prerequisite for understanding the follow-up.
