The planned live-action Power Rangers series is not moving forward at Disney+, according to TheWrap’s August 13, 2026 report. That is trade-press reporting, not a public cancellation announcement from Disney or Hasbro: no direct statement from either company was located. The project had been reported in talks and later described as in development, but the available reports did not establish a greenlight.
Is the Power Rangers series still happening on Disney+?
TheWrap reported on August 13, 2026 that Disney+ had decided not to proceed with the live-action series and that it would not move beyond development. TheWrap attributed the decision to business-related considerations and cited a source with knowledge of the project. It did not report a specific budget figure or more detailed rationale.
No official public cancellation announcement from Disney or Hasbro was located. The clearest supported description is therefore that TheWrap reported the project would not proceed—not that Disney or Hasbro publicly announced its cancellation.
How the project’s status changed
| Date | Source and statement | What the status means |
|---|---|---|
| March 19, 2025 | TheWrap reported that Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz were in talks to write, showrun and produce a live-action series for Disney+ and 20th Television, with Hasbro producing. | Talks and reported attachments; not a production order or greenlight. |
| April 8, 2026 | Playmates Toys’ management discussion and analysis described a new Hasbro Entertainment streaming series in development with Disney+ beyond 2026. | A corporate filing describing development at that time. It predates TheWrap’s later report. |
| August 13, 2026 | TheWrap reported that Disney+ would not move forward and the project would remain in development. | The latest reported status in these sources; not an official public cancellation notice. |
“In talks” and “in development” are earlier project stages, not evidence that filming was scheduled or a series had been ordered. TheWrap’s August report supersedes the earlier filing as the latest account, while the difference reflects when each source described the project.

What was known about the planned series?
The reported format was live action. TheWrap’s March 2025 story named Steinberg and Shotz as being in talks for writing, showrunning and producing, and identified Disney+, 20th Television and Hasbro in the project’s reported arrangements. The available reporting does not establish a final premise, cast, release date, episode count, production start or greenlight. Claims about a confirmed cast or plot go beyond what these sources support.

The reported decision concerns this Disney+ live-action project; it does not establish that the broader franchise or its merchandise has ended. Hasbro’s April 22, 2024 announcement of a global licensing agreement with Playmates Toys lists action figures, blasters, plush, role-play products, vehicles and accessories, and says Hasbro retained entertainment rights. Hasbro described the franchise as having aired more than 900 episodes in that 2024 announcement; that is a historical figure, not a current episode count.

Playmates’ 2026 filing describes the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Re-Ignition toy line as launched in fall 2025, with distribution expansion and refreshed figures, collectibles, combinable Zords and role-play accessories in 2026. These are existing franchise products, not announced tie-ins to the Disney+ series. Check that any retailer listing is available in your market.
In Hasbro’s April 22, 2024 licensing announcement, Playmates Toys SVP of Marketing Karl Aaronian said the company was honored to work with Hasbro on a reimagined toy line for longtime fans and a new generation. Hasbro’s Casey Collins, President of Licensed Consumer Products, described Playmates as a fit to expand the franchise through products. Those comments concern the licensing and toy line, not the Disney+ project’s status.
