The FA, the Premier League and Chelsea FC all record his Pompey roots and his own memories of supporting the club as a boy. The reporting we could check does not, however, support a reliable list of six famous Portsmouth supporters. This article sets out what is established about Mount, explains why the other places can’t be filled with confidence, and gives you a way to test any celebrity-fan claim about Pompey.
What the evidence establishes about Mason Mount
Mount’s support for Portsmouth is not a matter of local birth or passing mention. He has described it in his own words, and the clubs and competitions involved have repeated those accounts. The table below lists each documented moment with its source. Where a source does not give a date, the table says so.

The 2008 cup run as Mount remembers it
Mount’s clearest memory is of Portsmouth’s 2008 FA Cup run. He told The FA that he remembers heading to Wembley to see the club lift the trophy that year. Chelsea FC later quoted him on attending both the semi-final and the final with his father. He said it was “just brilliant to see Portsmouth actually lift the trophy.” Those accounts agree on the core facts: Mount was at the matches, his father took him, and Portsmouth won the final against Cardiff City.
Mount at Old Trafford
Mount also attended the January 2008 match at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Portsmouth. He sat in the away end. The Premier League’s official website quoted him saying: “I was there in the away end, supporting my team Pompey, and was able to witness that special moment.” A boy who travels to away matches with his club is a different level of attachment from a visitor who simply lives nearby, and his account reflects that.

Why the list of six cannot be confirmed
The title promises six celebrity supporters, but the reporting available does not identify them. No ranking of Portsmouth’s famous fans appears in the sources we could check, and no named statistic establishes one. The remaining five names therefore cannot be presented as verified supporters.
Filling those places with people who were born in Portsmouth or who lived there would be misleading. A Portsmouth connection in a biographical list shows a link to the city, not to the club. Birthplace, school or residence do not prove that someone follows Pompey, and readers should be wary of any list that treats them as if they do.

How to test a celebrity-fan claim about Portsmouth
If you are assessing a claim that a public figure supports Portsmouth FC, these checks separate documented support from assumption:
- Direct statement: the person speaks about supporting the club in their own words, in an interview, a club publication or a broadcast.
- Named, dated event: the claim places them at a specific match, cup run or club activity, ideally with a date.
- Independent reporting: a reputable outlet or the club or governing body repeats the account rather than only a fan site or aggregator.
- Nature of the link: the connection is to the club, not just to Portsmouth as a city or a place of birth.
Mount’s account passes every one of these tests, which is why he is the centre of this article.

Where to verify further
For Mount’s own words, start with The FA’s 2018 feature, Chelsea FC’s interview material and the Premier League’s official site, which are named in the table above. BBC Sport’s report covers his early years at Portsmouth. Each of these sources gives Mount’s own recollections, so treat them as first-person accounts rather than independent verification of matches or dates they did not record.
Anyone adding further names to a Portsmouth supporters list should apply the same tests before publishing. Until a name meets them, it does not belong on the list.

Mount’s story as the anchor of the topic
