The most-watched gaming streamers can offer useful lessons, but watch time is not a teaching ranking. Streams Charts’ 2025 YouTube Gaming list is a dated, global starting point; the best creator to study depends on whether you want to improve gameplay, make a live show more engaging, or package gaming across live streams, videos and Shorts.
Who are the most popular gaming streamers on YouTube?
Streams Charts ranked these creators by YouTube Gaming hours watched in 2025. The figures are historical watch-time totals, not current 2026 audience counts or measures of teaching quality. The language, game and format differences matter: a Counter-Strike caster, a VTuber and a Fortnite-focused creator solve different audience problems. Treat the list as a way to find contrasting approaches, not as a universal shortlist of the best teachers.
What can I learn from watching gaming streamers?
For gameplay decisions: study replays, not just highlights
A polished highlight often hides the choices that led to it. Watch full matches or replay segments and pause at turning points: What information did the player have? What options were available? What risk did they accept? Then compare that with your own decision in a similar situation. TIME quoted Ninja, discussing his book Get Good, on why replay review helps reveal decisions that are difficult to notice in the moment. For audience interaction: notice how chat becomes part of the show
Compare different ways creators involve viewers. Streams Charts describes Miko Ch. and Pekora Ch. as combining audience interaction with role-play-focused gaming; its profiles also highlight esports community casting and long tournament coverage. Ask when a creator reads chat, how they respond without losing the thread of play, and whether audience participation changes what happens on screen. YouTube’s creator material discusses how feedback from creators has informed features including Clips, Live Control Room and live-chat features. For channel identity: compare focus with variety
Typical Gamer is described as primarily focused on Fortnite, while MixiGaming covers indie games and Grand Theft Auto. The ranking also includes game-specific casters and creators who play several titles. Look at whether viewers come for a particular game, a recognizable personality, expert commentary or a blend. These examples do not establish that every new channel should be narrowly focused or broadly varied; your choice depends on what you can make distinct and sustain.

For production: track how one idea changes across formats
YouTube describes gaming creators using live streams, video-on-demand (VOD) uploads and Shorts to tell stories. A YouTube article historically profiled Lachlan turning stream and VOD highlights into Shorts; use that as an example of format repurposing, not as a current performance benchmark. Compare what context is added or removed in a live session, a full edited video and a short clip. YouTube’s creator material on gaming formats.
How to study a channel without copying it
- Pick one learning goal. Choose gameplay decisions, chat interaction, commentary, production or editing. A single viewing session is easier to evaluate when you know what you are watching for.
- Use a contrasting pair. Compare, for example, a game-focused creator with a variety channel, or a caster with a role-play-focused VTuber. Note what changes when the format and audience expectations differ.
- Record observable choices. Write down a timestamp, what happened, what the creator did, and what effect you think it had. Separate what you saw from your interpretation.
- Try one change in your own work. Test a specific adjustment—such as explaining a decision aloud or cutting a self-contained moment into a short clip—rather than imitating a creator’s whole persona.
- Review the result. Check whether the change improved clarity, pacing or interaction for your intended audience. One response or upload is not enough to establish a general rule.
How to apply the lessons when you start streaming
For gaming broadcasts with gameplay capture, overlays or microphones and cameras, YouTube identifies encoder streaming as a common option. Check channel eligibility and choose a streaming method
YouTube’s computer live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. It lists mobile, webcam and encoder streaming as options. Platform requirements can change, so check the current help page before your first broadcast. For a gameplay stream with scenes and peripherals, follow YouTube’s encoder setup flow in Live Control Room.
Set up and test the broadcast
- Open YouTube Studio and start an encoder stream. In Live Control Room, create or schedule the event and configure the encoder using the stream details YouTube provides. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not share it, and reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
- Match the encoder to your chosen output. Select a resolution and frame rate your computer and upload connection can sustain, then use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for bitrate, codec and keyframe interval. These values depend on the chosen output and platform guidance; do not copy settings intended for a different resolution or frame rate.
- Preview before going live. Send a private or unlisted test if appropriate, then check the Live Control Room preview for picture, audio and overlays. Listen for game audio drowning out speech, clipping, delay or missing microphone input.
- Check the recording and monitor the live feed. YouTube recommends checking local archive integrity and accessibility and monitoring audio and video quality. Confirm the recording plays and that the live output remains stable before relying on the setup for a longer event.
YouTube’s help also advises setting up encoder events in advance and trying a test stream. Its beginner guidance says, “If this is new to you, don’t worry about making the perfect video. Getting started is key.” YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.

Help viewers find the right gaming stream
YouTube says game pages are generated automatically when a game has a significant presence on the platform; they collect popular videos and live streams and are not editorial endorsements. For your own stream or upload, use an accurate title and description, choose the correct Gaming category and game in Studio, and use relevant tags for quality rather than quantity. Keep copyright and channel rules in view
Popularity is not permission to reuse another creator’s footage, music or stream. Use material you own or have permission to use, and review YouTube’s current copyright rules before including third-party content. Separately, a stream that repeats other people’s or your own content should still offer a clear reason to watch; the creator examples above are not a guarantee of monetization or channel approval. Check YouTube’s current policies and eligibility terms for your account and region rather than assuming a format is acceptable because another channel uses it.

What audience figures do—and do not—tell you
Big Games Machine’s 2025 survey reports that 44% of respondents selected general gaming YouTubers as the creator type they watched most, 41% selected streamers, and 25% selected style-driven creators, with informative, humorous and educational styles among the examples. It also reports that 50% of respondents aged 18–24 mostly watched streamers, compared with 27% of respondents aged 44–55. These are survey results, not a census of YouTube viewers; consult the report’s sample and methodology before applying them to a particular audience.
