The February 27, 2025 Pokémon Presents was led by an extended gameplay showcase for Pokémon Legends: Z-A and the surprise reveal of Pokémon Champions. The presentation also covered Pokémon TCG Pocket, Pokémon UNITE, Pokémon Café ReMix, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, plus shorter updates for other mobile games.
Because the presentation is now historical, this recap separates what was announced on Pokémon Day from what happened later. Pokémon Legends: Z-A released on October 16, 2025, and Pokémon Champions followed on April 8, 2026, while most of the limited-time events announced for the older games have ended.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A received the show’s biggest gameplay segment
The presentation’s most substantial footage focused on Pokémon Legends: Z-A, an urban adventure set in Lumiose City in the Kalos region. The city is being reshaped through an urban redevelopment project designed to create a place where people and Pokémon can live together.
The February presentation showed more of the city, its residents and the systems that connect exploration with battling. Players investigate Lumiose City’s redevelopment, interact with its inhabitants, catch Pokémon in designated Wild Zones and take part in the nighttime Z-A Royale competition.

Real-time battles change the usual rhythm
Unlike the traditional turn-based presentation of Pokémon battles, Legends: Z-A uses real-time combat. The Trainer and their Pokémon can move around the battlefield, issue attacks, dodge incoming moves and switch Pokémon during an encounter.
Positioning is important because moves have different areas of effect, and attacks take time to execute. A player therefore has to consider not only type matchups and move selection, but also distance, timing, the shape of an attack and whether an opponent can interrupt or evade it.
If you want to play the presentation’s main gameplay showcase rather than only watch it, the Pokémon Legends: Z-A game for Nintendo Switch is the most direct purchase connected to this event. It is now a released game, but buying it should not be confused with receiving any of the expired 2025 raid, outbreak or Mystery Gift rewards.
Partner Pokémon and the Lumiose cast
The three partner Pokémon announced for the game are Chikorita, Tepig and Totodile. The setting also includes Hotel Z, AZ, Team MZ, the Lumiose research community and Quasartico Inc., all of which help establish the game’s urban mystery and redevelopment storyline.

Mega Evolution is central to the story
Mega Evolution returns as one of the game’s defining mechanics. The official description explains that a Key Stone worn by the Trainer resonates with a Mega Stone held by a Pokémon. The presentation also highlighted a more dangerous mystery: some wild Pokémon can Mega Evolve independently, rather than relying on the usual Trainer-and-Pokémon relationship.
At the time of the presentation, Nintendo described Pokémon Legends: Z-A as a late-2025 release. The game ultimately launched on October 16, 2025, for Nintendo Switch. A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition offers improved resolution and frame rates. The current official product information also lists the paid Mega Dimension DLC, which adds further story content released in December 2025. Those release and DLC details came after the February 2025 presentation.
Pokémon Champions was the surprise new-game reveal
The genuinely new game announcement was Pokémon Champions, a battle-focused title in development for Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. It was not presented as a conventional exploration campaign. Instead, the game is built around Pokémon battles and the systems needed to create, train and compete with a team.
Nintendo’s presentation highlighted Ranked Battles, Casual Battles and Private Battles. The official product description also identifies single and double battles, Pokémon recruitment and training systems. Familiar fundamentals—including Pokémon types, Abilities and moves—remain part of the battle structure.

The Japanese Nintendo announcement confirmed planned integration with Pokémon HOME. The presentation positioned HOME as a way to connect Pokémon from earlier games and Pokémon GO with Pokémon Champions in some form.
That wording matters: the announcement did not mean that every Pokémon, move, item or feature from every previous game would automatically transfer unchanged. HOME compatibility is an ecosystem connection, and the exact Pokémon and transfer rules depend on the official support details for the relevant games and platforms.
What happened after the presentation?
In February 2025, Pokémon Champions was still described as being in development. The title later launched for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on April 8, 2026. The official Pokémon announcement also describes a mobile version and cross-platform battling, but availability can depend on the platform and region, so readers should check the current official listing before assuming every version or feature is available everywhere.

- 3 Pokemon booster packs from various sets
Pokémon TCG Pocket announced the digital Triumphant Light expansion
Pokémon TCG Pocket was scheduled to receive the Triumphant Light themed booster expansion on February 28, 2025, one day after the presentation. Arceus was the central featured Pokémon.
The developer announcement also mentioned new cards, new covers and backdrops, and a Pokémon Day campaign. A Ranked Match feature was planned for the end of March 2025.
This was a digital expansion for the mobile app, not a physical Pokémon Trading Card Game set. Physical Pokémon card products may interest collectors who follow the franchise, but there is no physical Triumphant Light booster product to buy based on this announcement.
Pokémon UNITE added three Pokémon and a new scoring format
Pokémon UNITE announced three additions to its playable roster: Suicune, Alolan Raichu and Alcremie. The presentation gave particular attention to Suicune, while also announcing the return of Remoat Stadium to ranked matches and a new type of battle.
PT500 and Aeos Tech Bonuses
The new format was called PT500. Its win condition is straightforward: the first team to reach 500 points wins.
The Japanese Nintendo recap also described a new in-battle feature called the Aeos Tech Bonus. Reaching certain scoring thresholds grants special effects, adding another layer of strategy to the race toward 500 points. The update also included revised maps and changes to wild Pokémon.
Suicune was described as a mid-range balanced Pokémon whose attacks can inflict Freeze. The current official Pokémon UNITE site lists Suicune, Alolan Raichu and Alcremie among the game’s roster, confirming that these were delivered additions rather than tentative announcements.
Pokémon Café ReMix served an apple-themed event
Pokémon Café ReMix announced the special “A Heaping Helping of Apples” event. Completing it allowed players to add either Flapple or Appletun to their café staff.
The event also brought an apple-themed collaboration menu item and special sweets-themed outfits. Players could receive Pikachu in a sweets outfit through login participation, while Eevee in a sweets outfit became available after logging in for three days.
The Japanese schedule placed the Flapple/Appletun event from February 28 through March 14, 2025. The login-stamp campaign ran from February 27 through March 14, 2025, with the published times given in Japan Standard Time. Regional schedules may display differently because of time-zone conversion.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet received Pokémon Day events
The presentation gave owners of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet several limited-time activities. The main battle campaign was a three-stage series of seven-star Tera Raid Battles featuring the final evolutions of the Paldea starters.

The English Nintendo recap presented the sequence in Australian local time, while the Japanese announcement gave the schedule in Japan time. The calendar dates can therefore vary at the edges of an event depending on the player’s region. Each featured Pokémon carried the Mightiest Mark.
Color-themed mass outbreaks
A separate mass-outbreak event increased encounters with red-, green- and blue-colored Pokémon across Paldea, Kitakami and the Blueberry Academy. The announced Pokémon were:

What the February 2025 presentation did not announce
Several popular assumptions about the event were not confirmed. Pokémon Presents did not announce:
- A new numbered Pokémon generation.
- A new mainline Pokémon title separate from Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
- A physical Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion called Triumphant Light.
- A new Nintendo console.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A was already known before the presentation; February 2025 supplied its first extended gameplay look. Pokémon Champions was the actual new game reveal. That distinction is the key to understanding the event: it was a broad Pokémon Day update, not a new-generation announcement.

What matters most in retrospect
The presentation had two different kinds of headline news. Pokémon Legends: Z-A was the major gameplay showcase, revealing its Lumiose City setting, real-time battles and Mega Evolution systems. Pokémon Champions was the more important announcement in terms of novelty, introducing a separate battle-centered game designed to connect with Pokémon HOME and support multiple battle formats.

Everything else filled out the 2025 Pokémon calendar: a digital card expansion, new Pokémon UNITE fighters and modes, a café event, and a collection of limited-time activities for Scarlet and Violet. The later release of Legends: Z-A and Champions means that a current reader should treat the original “coming soon” language as historical rather than current release information.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Pokémon Presents on February 27, 2025, was primarily about Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Pokémon Champions. The former demonstrated a new real-time, Mega Evolution-focused adventure in Lumiose City; the latter introduced a dedicated battle platform connected to the wider Pokémon ecosystem.
The remaining announcements were worthwhile but more routine: digital card content, UNITE additions, a café event and temporary activities for Scarlet and Violet. As of August 12, 2026, both headline games have moved beyond their original announcement status and are available in their later-released forms.
