The pale Pikachu and moss-covered Snorlax are designs featured in Pokémon Pokopia, Nintendo’s slow-life sandbox game for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s Japanese overview describes Pikachu’s drooping ears and faint appearance, and Snorlax’s moss-covered body and flower-like growth on its head. Nintendo announced a Japanese release date of March 5, 2026.
What are the new Pikachu and Snorlax designs?
Nintendo’s Japanese overview, published November 14, 2025, labels them “ピカチュウ（うすいろ）” and “カビゴン（こけむし）”—descriptive translations are “Pikachu (pale-colored)” and “Snorlax (moss-covered).” These are descriptions from Nintendo’s Japanese announcement; they should not be treated as independently verified official English names. Nintendo’s overview presents them as in-game Pokémon designs, not as product specifications for toys or other merchandise.
Pale Pikachu
Nintendo describes Pikachu as pale-colored, with drooping ears and a somewhat ephemeral appearance. GamesRadar+, reporting translated material from a Famitsu interview with Koei Tecmo chief director Takuto Edagawa, says the development team referred to it internally as “unfortunate Pikachu.” The outlet also reports Edagawa describing “Pikachu (Peakychu)’s temporal and melancholy feel” as impressive. Those phrases are GamesRadar+’s English rendering of interview comments, not official English naming from Nintendo. GamesRadar+’s report quotes Edagawa saying: “Because all of the Pokemon designs were done by people at Game Freak, the first time we saw them we were surprised and thrilled.”
Moss-covered Snorlax
Nintendo describes Snorlax as having moss growing on its body, with what looks like a flower blooming on top of its head. GamesRadar+ uses “Mosslax” in its report, but Nintendo’s Japanese announcement identifies the character descriptively as moss-covered Snorlax.

What is Pokémon Pokopia?
Pokémon Pokopia is a slow-life sandbox game for Nintendo Switch 2. According to Nintendo’s Japanese overview, the story begins in a ruined town where people and Pokémon once lived. The player character is Ditto transformed into human form; gameplay includes learning Pokémon moves, crafting, building and developing the town. The unusual Pokémon designs belong to this game context.
When did Pokémon Pokopia come out, and what do buyers need?
Nintendo announced March 5, 2026 as the Japanese release date. That date has passed; the announcement establishes the date for Japan, not current regional availability or release details in every market.

Nintendo’s Japanese article describes the Japanese physical package as a key card: the card stores the key needed to start the game, while the game software data must be downloaded over the internet on first play. Nintendo says the download requires internet access and sufficient available storage on the system or a microSD Express card. This is Japanese-edition packaging information; check the listing and packaging for the region where you plan to buy. The game is for Nintendo Switch 2.

The cited official announcements do not establish that design-specific merchandise featuring Pokopia’s pale Pikachu or moss-covered Snorlax is available. TOMY’s January 16, 2026 announcement covers Pokémon 30th-anniversary plush and figures, including a remake of a 1997 Pikachu plush, but does not say those products depict the Pokopia designs. TOMY’s announcement is therefore not confirmation of merchandise based on these particular in-game forms.
