The release came in two stages, and you must finish the base game’s main story before progressing through the DLC story. A separate physical Switch 2 bundle that includes the game and DLC is listed for October 29, 2026.
When did the Mega Dimension DLC come out?
The DLC rolled out in two stages. Holo-X and Holo-Y apparel became available on October 16, 2025; the additional story followed in December 2025. Nintendo’s official materials differ by one day on the story date: Nintendo Support lists December 9, while Nintendo’s store listing and the official Pokémon launch-trailer description give December 10. December 2025 is the clearest date to use without choosing between those official listings. (Nintendo Support; Nintendo Store)

The Pokémon Company announced the DLC on September 12, 2025, describing the apparel as available at launch and the story as arriving after the DLC went on sale October 16. Its announcement said spatial distortions had appeared in Lumiose City and framed the story as a continuation of the base game. (The Pokémon Company’s announcement)
Do you need to finish Pokémon Legends: Z-A first?
You can access the apparel without completing the base game, but progressing through the additional story requires finishing Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s main story. The DLC uses save data from the base game. Nintendo UK describes the second wave as “An additional story that can be enjoyed after completing the main story of Pokémon Legends: Z-A.” (Nintendo UK DLC listing)
