Poh Ling Yeow said she lost a pregnancy at 12 weeks, around eight years before she spoke about it in a 2022 ABC profile. She described the experience as heartbreaking, recalled going through labour at home, and said people should be able to talk about miscarriage and its grief.
What Poh Ling Yeow shared about her miscarriage
In ABC’s Australian Story profile, published on 14 November 2022, Yeow said she became pregnant with Jono Bennett about eight years earlier and lost the baby at 12 weeks. That places the loss at approximately 2014; it is a retrospective estimate, not a precise date. ABC’s profile and its companion transcript carry her account.
Yeow described the loss as “really heartbreaking” and said: “I actually went through full labour at home and I saw the baby.” Her statement describes her own experience; it does not establish anything about how other people experience miscarriage.
Why she said miscarriage should be discussed
Yeow spoke about the grief that can accompany pregnancy loss and the importance of being able to discuss it openly. In the ABC profile, she said: “I think it is something that people should talk about. It’s this silent grief that women go through all the time.” The transcript renders her reflection as: “I think it’s this sort of silent grief that women have to go through all the time.”

On 22 May 2024, PerthNow reported that Yeow discussed the miscarriage on the Share My Mood podcast with Will & Woody. The original episode transcript was not available alongside that report, so podcast-specific details should be understood as PerthNow’s account rather than independently verified quotations. PerthNow’s report describes Bennett as her former husband and says they parted ways in 2021; it does not establish that the miscarriage caused their separation.
