The project’s supported installation route is Flatpak through Flathub.
What Pithos does
The Pithos project describes the app as a native Pandora client for Linux. Its listed features include playing and skipping tracks, pausing playback, switching stations, viewing cover art, and giving feedback on songs. It also supports creating stations, editing QuickMix, opening song or station pages, reconnecting a session, proxy settings, media keys, notifications, and Last.fm scrobbling. How song feedback and stations work
The project’s user guide describes station seeds as artists, songs, or genres. It explains that Love expresses a preference, Ban rejects a song for that station, and Tired suppresses a track temporarily. The guide was edited in 2017, so these descriptions are useful for understanding the documented controls, not a guarantee that every detail matches Pandora’s current service.
Is Pithos an official Pandora app?
No. The Pithos repository says the app is “not affiliated with or endorsed by Pandora Media, Inc.” It is an independent client that uses a Pandora account; it should not be mistaken for software maintained or supported by Pandora. See the Pithos repository.

Does Pithos work with Pandora Premium?
Pithos requires a Pandora account, but the available project materials do not establish current feature-by-feature compatibility with Pandora Premium. In particular, they do not confirm whether on-demand album playback or every other Premium feature works. Pandora’s developer documentation describes Free, Plus, and Premium subscriptions, but it is API documentation rather than a current consumer plan comparison: Pandora subscriptions and APIs.
The Pithos homepage recommends a Pandora subscription for supporting the service and obtaining higher audio quality, but its wording uses “Pandora One,” which should not be treated as confirmation of a current plan name. If a specific paid feature is essential, verify that feature with Pandora rather than assuming Pithos provides full Premium parity.

How to install Pithos on Linux
The project identifies Flatpak as its only supported package format and provides these installation commands:
flatpak remote-add flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
flatpak install flathub io.github.PithosThese commands add Flathub as a Flatpak remote and install the Pithos app ID io.github.Pithos. The project wiki has separate instructions for installing from source, but source installation is not the project’s supported package-format recommendation. Account, password, and settings
Pithos uses a Pandora username and password. The 2017-edited user guide says the password is stored through the desktop login keyring. It also describes audio-quality, proxy, and explicit-content settings. That guide is not a recent security audit; users should rely on their desktop environment’s keyring controls and current project information when assessing account security.
Linux support and the browser alternative
Pandora has not made a current Linux compatibility guarantee in the cited material. In a Pandora Community response dated June 16, 2021, community manager AlyssaPandora said the service did not officially support Linux clients because of the range of Linux distributions and configurations it could not test. The same response said Pandora’s HTML5 app should work reasonably well on most up-to-date Linux desktop systems. That is a statement from 2021, not a present-day compatibility promise. The practical choice is between Pithos’s desktop integration and Pandora in a browser. Pithos offers native-style controls such as media keys and notifications; Pandora’s browser app avoids installing a separate client. Neither option is covered by a current Linux-support guarantee in the cited Pandora statement.

The version references available do not establish a definitive latest upstream release. The project changelog reports Pithos 1.6.1, while a Fedora 44 package listing shows 1.6.2-5; a distribution package version does not by itself prove that 1.6.2 is the latest upstream release. Check the Pithos changelog and your distribution’s package details for the version actually offered.
