Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is in screenplay development, according to producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s latest public update. At D23 on August 16, 2026, he said, “We’re talking to Johnny. We’re working on a screenplay. Hopefully we can get this done.” That confirms discussion with Johnny Depp and ongoing script work—not Depp’s casting, a Disney greenlight, or a release plan.
Is Pirates of the Caribbean 6 confirmed?
There is an active sixth-film project being developed, but the available information does not amount to a full Disney production announcement. Bruckheimer’s August 2026 comment is the clearest current update: a screenplay is being worked on. He did not say the film had been greenlit or that production had begun. TheWrap reported his D23 remarks on August 16, 2026.
The distinction matters: screenplay development is a step toward a possible film, not proof that the project will reach production. Bruckheimer has previously said the team would not move ahead until the script worked. In a 2025 interview, he put it plainly: “If we don’t have it on the page, it’s not gonna get on the screen.” TheWrap’s 2025 interview described the project as still being scripted.
Is Johnny Depp returning as Jack Sparrow?
Not confirmed. Bruckheimer said, “We’re talking to Johnny,” which establishes that discussions have taken place, but it is not a casting announcement or confirmation that Depp has signed on to reprise Jack Sparrow. No confirmed cast list for the sixth film appears in the sources reviewed.

Is Margot Robbie in Pirates of the Caribbean 6?
Her casting is not confirmed. In 2025, Bruckheimer said Robbie was “still involved,” but did not specify a role or say she had joined the cast. The remark does not establish whether the earlier Robbie-led project is the same film now in screenplay development.
How has the film’s development changed?
The reports describe a changing development process, not two confirmed films competing for release. In December 2022, Bruckheimer said two scripts were being developed and that the team was then focused on a more ensemble-oriented Pirates movie; he said the Robbie script might be made later. TheWrap reported that account in December 2022.

By 2025, Bruckheimer said one of two drafts had dropped out. He described the then-current draft as incorporating Ted Elliott’s work, with another writer filling gaps. His 2026 update—work continuing on a screenplay—is newer, but does not identify the script’s plot, final writing team, or relationship to the earlier project.
When will Pirates of the Caribbean 6 come out?
No release date or production start is established in the sources reviewed. Without a confirmed start of filming or a studio release announcement, there is no reliable schedule to give.

What is the plot of Pirates 6?
No official plot or title has been announced in the sources reviewed. Backstage’s August 2026 roundup likewise says Disney has not announced the film’s title or story. Backstage’s roundup does not establish a director or confirmed cast either. Treat purported story details as unverified unless Disney or the filmmakers announce them.
