Perabo described Juno as someone who manipulates the people around her but can also be sincere and emotionally unguarded with her family. She hoped a second season would explore Juno’s relationship with David; Prime Video later cancelled the series after one season.
Why Piper Perabo was drawn to playing Juno
Juno’s pursuit of power comes at a cost to the people closest to her. In an AOL interview, Perabo described her as “really singular in her hunt for power, regardless of how that’s corrupting all of the other relationships in her life.” That contradiction—ambition alongside attachment—gives the character more dimension than a villain who is simply cruel or detached.

Perabo’s account of Juno’s family relationships makes the tension explicit. “I think sometimes she’s being sincere unintentionally. I think when you’re with your family, you have moments of being unguarded,” she told TV Insider. “A lot of the time, she’s manipulating them, but there are moments where she even takes herself by surprise, because she does love them.” The comments describe Perabo’s interpretation of the character, not a claim that Juno’s choices are harmless or that her affection cancels out her manipulation.
What Perabo hoped to see in a second season
Perabo’s specific creative hope was to see more of Juno and David together. “In Season 2, I’d like to see their dynamic together because that’s what kind of got this all started,” she said in the TV Insider interview. “They seem like such an unlikely duo. I’d like to see that in action.”

Those were hopes expressed in an interview published August 13, 2025—not confirmation that Prime Video had ordered another season. The season-one ending left several story threads open: Juno flees by private jet after Oliver turns against her; Eunju is later found stabbed; and Rebecca is missing. The cliffhanger prompted cast speculation about what might follow, but it did not establish that a continuation was in production.
Is Butterfly season 2 happening?
No. Prime Video cancelled Butterfly after one season, according to Marie Claire’s October 10, 2025 report, which cited The Hollywood Reporter. The reason for the cancellation was not clear in that report. Perabo’s season-two comments should therefore be understood as an interview-era hope, not a current plan for the show.
