Pierce Brosnan has not endorsed a rumored candidate to play James Bond. Instead, the former 007 said producers could choose an actor the public does not already know, telling The Times: “They could probably just go left-field and pick someone that none of us know about.”
What did Pierce Brosnan say about the next Bond?
Brosnan offered the possibility of an unexpected choice rather than naming his preferred successor. He also said he would not pick anyone, describing himself as “a member of the audience now awaiting the next Bond and wishing him well.” TheWrap attributed the remarks to an interview with The Times in its September 12, 2026 report: TheWrap’s report on Brosnan’s comments.

Did Brosnan support one of the rumored actors?
No. TheWrap named Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, Jack Lowden, and Harris Dickinson among actors circulating in casting reports, but Brosnan did not identify any of them as his choice. Those names were reported contenders, not confirmed cast members.
Has the next James Bond been announced?
TheWrap said the casting process was ongoing when it published its September 12, 2026 report. That is a dated account, not confirmation of the status on October 8, 2026. The material available here does not establish whether Amazon MGM Studios has announced a decision since then, so the current status should be checked against an official studio announcement rather than inferred from Brosnan’s remarks.

Why are other Bond casting comments easy to mix up?
Other actors and franchise figures have made separate comments about the rumors. A September 6 Independent bulletin summarized Rory Kinnear casting doubt on rumored names, while a September 14 report said Gary Oldman clarified that he did not know who had been chosen and was hoping his co-star Jack Lowden would get the role. Those remarks are not Brosnan’s and do not establish a casting decision.
Earlier reports also do not settle the later status: in May 2026, Idris Elba said he was not in the race and that the studio was going younger; in June, Callum Turner said he knew nothing about the casting process. Neither comment amounts to an official announcement.
