What the documentary is about
Chris is last seen in surveillance footage on a bridge spanning Warsaw’s Vistula River. His father, Daniel, responds by conducting a search that grows from a desperate effort into an all-consuming investigation. He searches the river and its banks, builds boats, deploys drones and underwater cameras, and follows digital traces that might reveal what happened.

As time passes without a definitive answer, Daniel also begins helping other families whose loved ones are missing. That expansion gives the film a second dimension: his investigation is not only about reconstructing one disappearance, but about finding a way to act while uncertainty continues.
Grief without a simple resolution
CLOSURE is structured around the psychological strain of an unresolved disappearance rather than a conventional solved-mystery payoff. It examines parental duty, hope, grief and the difficulty of living when evidence remains incomplete. The IFC page reproduces an IndieWire description of the film as “An ultra-immersive portrait of grief, acceptance, and the role that hope can play in delaying them.”

How Marczak filmed Daniel’s search
Marczak serves as director and cinematographer, using an immersive observational approach alongside specially built equipment designed for Daniel’s river searches. Boats, drones and underwater cameras make the physical investigation visible from perspectives that ordinary reportage could not easily provide. The International Documentary Association’s January 23, 2026 interview discusses the custom rig, the film’s technical innovations and the ethical difficulty of observing a family’s grief.
Marczak has also worked in cinematic music-video production. In that interview, he said: “I was fortunate to work with Radiohead and Thom Yorke on short music videos that were very cinematic and told a little story.” In CLOSURE, that visual experience is applied to a real, ongoing emotional situation rather than a scripted narrative.
