Peter Attia stepped down as Chief Science Officer at David Protein, founder Peter Rahal announced on February 3, 2026. In a report published the same day, TechCrunch said Attia’s co-founded health startup Biograph declined to comment on whether he was still involved. Neither report establishes that Attia was fired or confirms his current status at Biograph.
What David announced about Peter Attia
David founder Peter Rahal announced Attia’s departure from the protein-bar company’s Chief Science Officer role. Reuters quoted Rahal’s statement: “Dr. Peter Attia has stepped down from his role as Chief Science Officer at David. We remain focused on serving our customers.” Reuters, February 3, 2026, and TechCrunch, February 3, 2026, reported the announcement as a step-down; neither characterized it as a firing.
The announcement came after the release of records involving Jeffrey Epstein that included communications involving Attia, according to the reports. TechCrunch said Attia expressed shame about some crude content in the emails and denied involvement in criminal activity. The reporting places the events in sequence but does not establish that David gave a reason for his departure.
What the released records do—and do not—show
Reuters reported that Attia’s name appeared more than 1,700 times in a trove of 3 million emails. Those figures describe mentions in the released material; they do not establish that every appearance represents a substantive communication, nor do they by themselves prove criminal conduct. TechCrunch reported Attia’s response, including his denial of criminal involvement. The distinction matters: a name appearing in records is not, on its own, evidence of wrongdoing.

What Biograph said about Attia’s role
TechCrunch described Biograph as a health-testing and longevity startup co-founded by Attia and entrepreneur John Hering. The company declined to comment on Attia’s ongoing participation. TechCrunch also reported that pages which had previously mentioned him omitted his name or returned a “file not found” error.
Those details document Biograph’s response and website changes as of the February 3 report. They do not confirm whether Attia holds a formal role at the company now. His official biography identifies him as founder of Early Medical and host of The Peter Attia Drive, but it does not resolve his relationship with Biograph: Peter Attia’s official biography.

What David Protein is
David’s flagship product is a physical protein bar. TechCrunch reported that the bar launched in September 2024 and described the company’s product claims as 28 grams of protein, zero sugar and 150 calories per bar. Those are company claims relayed in the article, not independent test results or confirmation of the product’s current formulation.
TechCrunch also reported that David raised a $75 million Series A in May 2025, led by Greenoaks with participation from Valor Equity Partners. That is historical funding context, not a statement of the company’s present valuation or financing status.

Attia’s later CBS News departure was separate
Attia’s departure from David and his later exit from CBS News were separate events. The Washington Post reported on February 23, 2026, that he had left the network. CBS News quoted his spokesperson as saying: “Dr. Attia’s contributor role was newly established and had not yet meaningfully begun.” That later explanation concerns the CBS role, not the reason for his departure from David.
