Perth Festival’s 72nd annual season ran from 7 February to 3 March 2025, according to the City of Perth’s event announcement. The festival later described it as a 24-day season. Its 2025 impact report recorded 348,566 total attendances, including 214,000 attendances at the free programme, which the festival called the largest in its history.
When was Perth Festival 2025?
The City of Perth announced the festival for 7 February–3 March 2025, with more than 100 events across 13 City venues. In its post-season wrap and impact report, Perth Festival described the season as spanning 24 days. Those are the sources’ respective descriptions of the dates and duration.
What made the 72nd season distinctive?
The programme connected performances and public spaces across Perth rather than concentrating on a single venue. Karla Bidi linked sites along the Swan River through light and sound; East Perth Power Station became a festival precinct; and Perth Town Hall was transformed into The Embassy. Perth Moves and other events extended activity into neighbourhoods.
The programme included international and Australian music, theatre and other performance. Official festival material named artists and acts including PJ Harvey, Maribou State, Röyksopp, Electric Fields and Fontaines D.C. It also featured the day-long Mahabharata, Big Name, No Blankets and 12 Last Songs.

How much of the programme was free?
Perth Festival and Culture Counts’ 2025 impact report recorded 105 free events and 214,000 attendances across the free programme. The festival’s 6 March wrap called it the largest free programme in its history. The same impact report counted 75 ticketed events and 82,744 tickets sold.
These measures describe different things: event counts are not attendance counts, and tickets sold are not the same as total attendances. The report also recorded 1,288 sessions delivered; a session is an individual performance or engagement occurrence, so sessions can outnumber events.

How many people attended Perth Festival 2025?
The impact report gives 348,566 total attendances for the 2025 season. This is an attendance measure, not a count of unique individuals. The report’s overview rounds the figure to 348,000, while its audience panel provides the exact total.
The report also says 48% of ticket buyers had not purchased a ticket in the previous five years. Its audience panel lists an average audience age of 54; separately, the overview says the median age fell by four years. Average age and a change in median age are different statistics.

What was the festival’s reported economic impact?
Perth Festival and Culture Counts reported $19.2 million in direct economic impact and $56 million in multiplied impact for the 2025 season. These are separate categories in the impact report, not interchangeable estimates of direct spending. The festival’s broader retrospective also used a $56 million local-economy contribution formulation; the report’s category labels are the clearest way to distinguish the figures.
The Government of Western Australia announced a $9.5 million Lotterywest grant for the 2025 festival in November 2024, describing it as the largest Lotterywest grant Perth Festival had received at that time. That grant was government support, not the festival’s total budget.

What does “record-breaking” refer to?
The clearest record claim in the festival’s own retrospective concerns the free programme: the 6 March wrap called it the largest in the festival’s history, and the June impact report recorded 105 free events and 214,000 free-programme attendances. The report also gives the season’s total attendance and economic-impact measures, but those figures should be read under their specific labels rather than treated as a single record claim.
