Ginga’s standout feature in PerthNow’s December 2024 review was its leafy courtyard and fish pond; the food and service received a more mixed assessment. Reviewer Kate Emery described the new Mount Hawthorn cafe as still finding its feet after opening in November 2024. That judgement reflects visits about a month after opening—not a verified picture of how Ginga operates today.
What made Ginga stand out in the early review?
At 193 Scarborough Beach Road in Mount Hawthorn, Ginga’s main draw was its outdoor courtyard: leafy, sun-dappled and arranged around a central fish pond. Emery called it a small oasis near the busy road. She also noted that the courtyard had remained largely unchanged from its days as Casa Bianchi. The interior, by contrast, was light and bright, with pale wood and booths. PerthNow’s review was published on 31 December 2024.
For someone seeking somewhere different for breakfast in Perth, the garden is the clearest reason to put Ginga on a shortlist. The review’s praise for the setting was stronger than its assessment of the meal and service.
What did the food and service review find?
Emery found the service friendly but patchy, reporting that she had to ask for water and cutlery on both visits. The scrambled eggs on toast were good, but one poached egg was overcooked. A vegetarian fusion breakfast of mushrooms, hash browns, beans and haloumi was competently cooked, though the components did not come together as a dish. The review gave Ginga 12.5/20.

Those details describe an early visit, not a promise about today’s menu or a current quality rating. Later accounts are mixed rather than conclusive. A September 2025 Tripadvisor visitor praised chilli chorizo scramble, Turkish eggs, coffee and quick, friendly service, and mentioned QR ordering and the courtyard pond. A February 2025 reviewer liked the garden and coffee but described queues during the morning rush. Another 2025 visitor enjoyed the courtyard and chicken satay at lunch, while finding the lunch selection limited compared with dinner. In contrast, a 2026 visitor report displayed by Restaurant Guru described a delayed, cold breakfast and service problems. Is Ginga better suited to breakfast, lunch or dinner?
The 2024 PerthNow review focused on breakfast, while later visitor accounts mention both breakfast dishes and lunch items. One 2025 visitor’s report suggests lunch choice may be narrower than the dinner offering, but that is a single account, not a current menu comparison. If you are going for a particular dish or meal period, check the cafe’s latest menu before setting out.

Schedules and arrangements have changed or differed across dated listings. PerthNow recorded breakfast from 7am to 2.30pm daily and bookings available as of its December 2024 review. A third-party directory updated in August 2026 lists daytime service daily and evening sessions on selected days; a mirror of Ginga social posts also carries dated 2026 notices about dinner, holiday service and walk-ins.
