The storyline also follows the family’s experience in short-form digital content, including an episode told from George’s audio perspective. These are fictional plot details, not a report about a real child’s diagnosis.
What happens to George in “Hearing Test”?
The announcement says George’s hearing loss is discovered during a routine doctor visit. It describes the loss as moderate and affecting one ear, and says George receives a hearing aid. The announcement’s search-result excerpt supports these details, but its syndication page could not be accessed directly; release timing and additional plot specifics are therefore not confirmed here.
The announcement also identifies a PEPPA PIG Joke & Sing George Figure depicting George with his hearing aid. This is character merchandise, not a hearing-care device or treatment.
What a child’s hearing screening can—and cannot—tell you
A screening checks whether a child may have hearing loss; it does not diagnose the type, degree, or cause. If a child does not pass, the next step is a full hearing evaluation with an audiologist. The CDC advises that follow-up should happen as soon as possible.

- GREAT GIFTS FOR BIRTHDAYS, HOLIDAYS, OR ANYTIME for kids ages 2 and up
An audiologist selects tests based on the child and clinical evaluation. CDC lists examples including:
- Auditory brainstem response (ABR): checks the brain’s response to sound.
- Otoacoustic emissions (OAE): checks the inner ear’s response to sound.
- Behavioral audiometry: assesses how the child responds to sounds.
The evaluation may also take account of factors such as birth history, ear infections, and family history. A screening result alone does not establish what kind of hearing loss, if any, a child has.

CDC’s early-detection benchmarks
CDC’s recommended “1-3-6” benchmarks for early hearing detection and intervention are screening by 1 month of age, diagnostic evaluation by 3 months, and enrollment in early intervention by 6 months. These are benchmarks for care, not a timeline for George’s fictional story.
US newborn-screening data offer context for why follow-up matters, but they do not describe George or every child: CDC reports that more than 98% of US newborns were screened in 2022; more than 6,000 US infants born that year were identified with permanent hearing loss; and the reported prevalence was 1.7 per 1,000 babies screened. These figures are for the United States and the 2022 data year.

Support depends on the child and family
Hearing loss can affect communication, language, and social development. Support varies with the child’s needs and the family’s preferences. CDC describes possibilities that may include communication services, learning sign language, hearing devices such as hearing aids or cochlear implants, medical or surgical treatment for some kinds of hearing loss, and family support services. No single option is right for every child or family; decisions should be made with the child’s care team.
