Pedro Pascal says he met Oscar Isaac while they were doing a play together in 2005. Their public interviews show a fond, teasing rapport—most memorably, Isaac joking that Pascal was “obsessed” with him. That line is best read as banter, not a literal account of their relationship.
How Pedro Pascal and Oscar Isaac met
Pascal gave the clearest first-person account of their meeting in a WIRED interview: “I met him through a play we did together in 2005.” Read Pascal’s WIRED interview.
Esquire likewise places their meeting during an off-Broadway play. A later retrospective identifies the production as The Beauty of the Father; that specific title comes from the retrospective, rather than Pascal’s quoted recollection. Esquire’s profile of Oscar Isaac and the retrospective identifying the play provide those accounts.
The “obsessed” joke—and why it works as public banter
One of the most memorable examples of their teasing came when Isaac joked that Pascal was “obsessed” with him. Esquire’s coverage presents the line as a joke; Pascal later addressed Isaac’s teasing in a video interview. The humor comes from the mock-serious framing, not evidence of a one-sided or unusually intense relationship. Esquire’s coverage of the joke.

Those comments are not a comprehensive timeline. They do not establish how often the actors see one another now or provide a detailed account of their private lives. The most grounded way to describe their friendship is therefore the one their public exchanges support: two actors who met while working together and have joked about one another in interviews.
