In a 2019 interview, singer and actor Pedro Capó said the sight of younger generations protesting in Puerto Rico and achieving change gave him hope. He described the period as emotionally difficult, but also as a historic moment that set a precedent.
What Pedro Capó said about Puerto Rico in 2019
Asked about the events unfolding in Puerto Rico, Capó recalled a range of emotions: “We went through a huge range of emotions, from frustration to anger, sadness, but also hope, because when you see the newer generations take it on the streets and achieve a change, it fills me with hope,” he told People CHICA.
He called it “a historical moment that set a precedent,” adding that “everybody’s aware, from the people to the politicians.” Those remarks capture Capó’s personal response to the protests; the interview does not offer a full account of the events or establish their broader political outcomes.
The musical roots behind Capó’s career
The profile identifies Capó as a singer and actor, born Pedro Francisco Rodríguez Sosa. He grew up around music: his grandfather was Puerto Rican singer Bobby Capó, and his father was a singer-songwriter. Capó recalled his father as his hero, someone who included him in making music. “So the spark of my vocation lit up fairly quick,” he said.

From waiting tables to theater
Before his music career took off, Capó lived in New York and worked as a waiter. A former manager encouraged him to try theater. Despite having no previous audition experience, he went for a role at the Apollo Theater and got it: “I’d never gone to an audition,” he said. “But I went and I got the part!”
