Who made the album, and how was it recorded?
Pearl Jam recorded at Shangri-La Studios in Malibu in 2023 with producer Andrew Watt. The lineup was Eddie Vedder, Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready and Matt Cameron. Universal Music Canada said the writing and recording took place in a three-week burst, with the musicians facing one another and playing together. The Associated Press also confirmed the producer and studio context in its coverage of the album announcement.
Mike McCready described the approach to Goldmine as everyone being “in the room at the same time, with Andrew,” playing off one another. The statement is his account of the sessions, not an independent assessment of the finished record.

What is the Dark Matter track list?
Universal Music Canada’s release-day announcement lists 11 songs, in this order:
- “Scared of Fear”
- “React, Respond”
- “Wreckage”
- “Dark Matter”
- “Won’t Tell”
- “Upper Hand”

What does the announcement say about the sound and artwork?
Universal Music Canada described the songs as energetic, with thunderous rhythms, prominent guitar solos and vocals. That is the label’s characterization rather than a critical consensus. Eddie Vedder recommended playing the album “loud, like, really loud,” while Jeff Ament suggested listeners close their eyes, take in the sounds and words, and interpret them individually.

The label credits Alexandr Gnezdilov with the cover art, made using light painting. Its account says the image involved a large, self-made kaleidoscope and a specially designed flashlight to capture the lettering in midair.
What did the title track achieve on the charts?
In its April 2024 release-day announcement, Universal Music Canada reported that “Dark Matter” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart for three weeks and also topped Billboard’s Rock & Alternative Airplay chart. These are label-reported chart claims; the announcement does not provide an independent recheck of Billboard’s archive.
