How does the film connect to the series?
The Immortal Man is a continuation of the six-season television series, not a reboot. Netflix describes it as a film sequel. Director Tom Harper and writer Steven Knight return the story to the Shelby family, with Cillian Murphy reprising Tommy. As Knight put it, “The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”
The story is set in Birmingham in 1940, during World War II. Tommy has withdrawn from the gang and his family, but returns as their future—and the country’s—is under threat. The official Netflix Media Center synopsis describes his return from self-imposed exile and the conflict over his legacy.

Duke is no longer simply one of the gang: he is Tommy’s son and heir, and he has taken the lead in the Peaky Blinders. His dealings with Beckett place him at the center of the danger Tommy must confront. Netflix’s trailer guide frames the clash as a conflict over the family’s future.
Kaulo tries to draw Tommy back in
Ferguson’s Kaulo is a new character with a personal connection to Tommy through Zelda, his late lover and Kaulo’s twin. Ferguson described Kaulo’s purpose this way: “My character’s come in to kind of persuade Cillian’s character to break into the world again from isolation, and to take control and to help guide his son.”

Ada pushes back against Duke’s violence
Ada’s political commitments put her at odds with Duke’s illegal and violent dealings. She also tries to reconnect Tommy with the family’s affairs, making her a key link between her isolated brother and the crisis Duke is facing.
Who are the returning and newer characters?
The film brings back series characters played by Murphy, Rundle, Graham, Lee, Dennehy and Peck. Ferguson, Roth, Keoghan and Lycurgo appear as new or newer figures in the film’s story. This is a distinction in franchise roles, not a measure of how much screen time any performer has.

The flat cap is part of Tommy Shelby’s recognizable costume. In Netflix Tudum’s costume feature, Murphy said of wearing the cap, “When you pull the cap down, you feel invincible.” The same article reports that UK department store John Lewis recorded an 83% increase in flat-cap sales between 2016 and 2017; that figure describes those years, not current sales.
