What the original Peacock deal included
The headline’s “$5” referred to a monthly charge, not a one-time payment for four months. The 2024 promotion charged $4.99 per month for four months, or $19.96 before tax, for Peacock Premium. It used the code TGIF and was reported as an offer for new subscribers; existing Premium and Premium Plus subscribers were excluded. The promotion expired September 6, 2024. It was the ad-supported Premium tier, not Premium Plus. The offer was timed around Peacock’s football coverage, including the Packers–Eagles game on September 6, 2024. That was the event’s context then, not a reason to expect the code to work now.
Peacock’s current standard prices
Peacock’s U.S. plans page lists the following prices and features as seen on August 18, 2026. Annual billing is presented as 12 months for the price of 10, but it requires paying for the year upfront.

Prices and plan descriptions are from Peacock’s current plans page. Premium Plus is not completely ad-free: Peacock notes that some channels, live sports and events, and selected programming may still include ads. The $7.99 monthly comparison in coverage of the 2024 deal is historical; the current listed Premium monthly price is $10.99.
The current verified discount for eligible students
Peacock’s official student offer lists Premium for $5.99 per month for 12 months. It is restricted to eligible students enrolled in an undergraduate or advanced degree program at a Title IV-accredited U.S. college or university. Applicants must be at least 18, verify through SheerID, and provide a valid payment method. The offer’s terms say it is available to new or existing subscribers, although current paid subscribers may need to cancel before redeeming.

Which Peacock plan makes sense?
- Choose Select if the narrower TV catalog suits you and you do not need sports, movies or Peacock Originals.
- Choose Premium if you want live sports and events, films, NBC and Bravo favorites, and Peacock Originals, and are comfortable with ads.
- Consider Premium Plus if downloads and fewer ads matter enough to justify its higher price. Some content can still contain ads.
- Consider the student offer if you meet its eligibility rules and want Premium at the discounted rate for its 12-month term.
- For a short viewing window, monthly billing avoids paying for a full year upfront. Compare the current checkout price and renewal date with the value of the content you expect to watch.
Check renewal and billing before subscribing
Promotional prices are temporary. Before submitting payment for any offer, check its duration, renewal price, first regular billing date, taxes, and cancellation deadline. Peacock’s current offer terms state that subscriptions auto-renew at the then-current rate unless canceled. The original 2024 coverage said subscribers could cancel at any time, but it does not establish a specific post-promotion price for that expired offer.

Also check who bills you. If a subscription is managed through an app store, carrier, cable provider or another partner, its billing dates, eligibility and cancellation process may differ; cancel through the provider that manages the account. Save the confirmation email and set a reminder ahead of the next charge. Do not assume cancellation automatically refunds fees already paid.

The $4.99-a-month Peacock Premium promotion was genuine, but it ended September 6, 2024. Do not rely on TGIF as a working code. Check Peacock’s plans page for current pricing, or review the student offer if eligible.
