Peacemaker Season 3 has not been officially renewed, confirmed, or scheduled. After the Season 2 finale, James Gunn indicated that there were no plans for another season “right now,” while also explaining that Peacemaker’s story was built to continue through the wider DCU and other stories. That means Season 3 is not currently happening—but it is also too strong to call the series permanently canceled.
Is Peacemaker Season 3 happening?
Not at present. The latest verifiable update is James Gunn’s post-finale response in October 2025: there were no current plans for Peacemaker Season 3.
Gunn’s wording matters. “Not right now” is a statement about the current development status, not an announcement that the series can never return. There is no evidence of a Season 3 renewal, formal episode order, writers’ room, production start, release window, episode count, or director announcement.
The most accurate status is therefore:
- Renewed? No official renewal has been announced.
- In production? No production start or writers’ room has been confirmed.
- Scheduled? No Season 3 release date exists.
- Canceled forever? That has not been stated in the available reporting.
- Will the character return? Gunn has indicated that Peacemaker and related characters are part of broader DCU plans, although no specific next appearance is confirmed.
What James Gunn’s update actually means
Gunn’s comments separate three issues that are easy to blur together in online reports.

1. There is no current Season 3 plan
The statement does not describe an active television project. Fans should not treat rumors about a secret renewal, an unannounced filming schedule, or a supposed release date as confirmed information.
2. The show has not been definitively canceled
Nothing in the reported answer amounts to a permanent cancellation. Television projects can change direction, particularly inside a developing shared universe. However, the possibility of a future reversal is not the same thing as evidence that Season 3 is secretly in development.
3. Christopher Smith’s story may continue elsewhere
Gunn explained that the ending was designed around the wider DCU and other stories in which these characters would continue. In practical terms, DC Studios appears to be using Peacemaker-related developments as part of a larger narrative rather than immediately extending them through another season of the same series.
That is why the most responsible headline is not “Season 3 is canceled” or “Season 3 is confirmed.” The current picture is: no Season 3 plan right now, but no indication that Peacemaker is finished as a DCU character.

Where could Peacemaker appear next?
Man of Tomorrow is the clearest possible connection
The strongest publicly documented candidate is Man of Tomorrow, the announced sequel to James Gunn’s Superman. DC has announced the film for theatrical release on July 9, 2027.
Coverage of the Peacemaker Season 2 finale connected the season’s larger developments with the Superman follow-up and described those events as setting up future DCU stories. That makes Man of Tomorrow a logical potential destination for Peacemaker-related material.
But John Cena’s appearance has not been officially confirmed by the evidence currently available. It is accurate to call the film the clearest connected project or a likely story destination. It is not accurate to list Peacemaker as a confirmed member of the cast unless DC Studios or Gunn makes that announcement.
Other possible DCU destinations remain unconfirmed
Fans have also discussed Creature Commandos, Waller, Lanterns, Checkmate-related projects, and future DCU films. The broader idea—that the characters could appear in other DCU stories—is supported by Gunn’s comments. The specific predictions are not.

What Season 2 set up
Peacemaker Season 2 concluded in October 2025. Its major developments were presented as part of the developing DCU, rather than as a self-contained storyline that had to be resolved in a third television season.
Finale coverage identified connections to wider storylines involving the Salvation concept and the Checkmate organization. Those elements are best understood as evidence of the direction of the universe—not proof that a Checkmate series has been ordered or that a particular character is guaranteed to appear in a particular project.
This distinction is especially important because DC’s current strategy allows characters to move between television series, films, animated projects, and team-based stories. A character can remain narratively relevant without having an immediately announced solo season.

What fans can read while waiting
The television series draws on a character with a long DC Comics history, but the comics are not a direct Season 3 continuation. Readers who want more background on Christopher Smith can look for Peacemaker: Kill for Peace, including the DC Finest: Peacemaker: Kill for Peace collection, which DC lists as a 640-page paperback gathering early Peacemaker appearances and related material from titles including Peacemaker, Checkmate, Suicide Squad, Vigilante, and Eclipso.
Peacemaker Tries Hard! is another optional collected graphic novel. It offers a character-focused comic story, but it should not be presented as source material that directly continues the television show.
If you are revisiting the series, a first-season Blu-ray or DVD release is documented. The available research does not establish a current Season 2 physical-media release, so listings that claim a confirmed Season 2 disc set should be checked against a current retailer or Warner Bros. announcement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to interpret future announcements
A real Season 3 update would likely include one or more concrete production details: an official renewal, a series order, a returning cast announcement, a writers’ or filming update, or a release window from DC Studios, Warner Bros., Max, or Gunn himself.
By contrast, these developments would not independently confirm Season 3:
- A social-media post featuring John Cena without a project announcement.
- A rumored call sheet, shooting location, or supposed episode title.
- A fan theory based on Season 2’s cliffhangers.
- An actor saying they would like to return.
- A DCU project being connected thematically to Peacemaker.
Until a formal announcement arrives, readers should treat specific claims about a third season, a Peacemaker movie, or the character’s next project as speculation.

Why the status could still change
Gunn’s answer leaves room for a future Season 3 because it describes the absence of a plan “right now,” rather than declaring the series permanently over. A later season could become possible if the broader DCU story creates a suitable opening, if scheduling changes, or if DC Studios decides that another standalone chapter is the best way to use the character.
That possibility should be kept in proportion. The available evidence does not show that a reversal is underway. For now, the confirmed direction is broader DCU storytelling, not an announced third season.

Frequently Asked Questions
Has Peacemaker Season 3 been renewed?
No. As of August 12, 2026, no official renewal, series order, production start, or release date has been announced.
Did James Gunn cancel Peacemaker Season 3?
Gunn reportedly said there were no plans for Season 3 “right now.” That indicates no current development plan, but it does not amount to a definitive permanent cancellation.
Will Peacemaker be in Man of Tomorrow?
That has not been officially confirmed. The Superman sequel is the clearest connected project following the wider DCU direction associated with the Season 2 finale, but John Cena’s casting as Peacemaker remains unconfirmed in the available evidence.
What should I watch or read after Peacemaker Season 2?
You can revisit the existing seasons and explore DC collections such as DC Finest: Peacemaker: Kill for Peace or Peacemaker Tries Hard!. The comics provide character background, not a direct continuation of the television series.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Bottom line: Peacemaker Season 3 is not currently planned, renewed, or scheduled. James Gunn has nevertheless indicated that Christopher Smith and related characters are part of the wider DCU, so “not planned right now” is more accurate than “canceled forever.” Man of Tomorrow is the clearest possible connected destination, but Peacemaker’s appearance in that film has not been confirmed.
