Paul Simon’s June 2025 return to New York was an intimate Beacon Theatre performance mixing new and familiar music—not a conventional greatest-hits victory lap. Andy Greene’s Rolling Stone review, published June 17, described a “quiet celebration”; the available excerpt identifies the venue and the old-and-new repertoire, but does not establish a complete set list or detailed account of the night’s staging.
What the New York review establishes
Andy Greene’s Rolling Stone review covered Simon at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre, following his 2018 Homeward Bound farewell-tour concert in Queens. The surfaced excerpt characterizes the Beacon performance as an intimate night drawing on both new and older material. It supports that broad description, but not a song-by-song reconstruction or unverified claims about the audience, staging, or exact arrangements. The review excerpt and publication details are reproduced in an IMDb news index.
How the Quiet Celebration show was structured
Simon’s official tour announcement describes a deliberate two-part program: Seven Psalms in full before an intermission, then classics and deep cuts from across his career. The artist describes Seven Psalms as a continuous composition lasting 33 minutes; a later tour description says the album was performed entirely on acoustic instruments. Those details explain the format of the tour, but the available Beacon review excerpt does not independently confirm every element of that night’s performance.
That structure makes the show different from a standard greatest-hits set. The first section gives one sustained newer work its own space; the second moves through a broader catalogue rather than limiting the evening to best-known singles. Simon’s announcement also emphasizes intimate venues and fresh arrangements. The official announcement and tour information provide the artist’s description of the format.

What “quiet” means—and what it does not prove about the Beacon
The title’s “Quiet Celebration” framing points toward a performance built around close listening and arrangement detail, rather than the energy of a large-scale nostalgia show. Independent reporting from a later stop helps describe that wider tour mood, but should not be mistaken for eyewitness reporting from New York.
Reviewing Simon’s May 2026 Liverpool performance for The Guardian, Dave Simpson called it “a hushed and introspective reinvention rather than a euphoric victory lap,” and wrote: “What Simon has lost in vocal power he has added in intimacy and authority.” These are Simpson’s observations about Liverpool, not Greene’s description of the Beacon. They offer useful context for the tour’s approach without supplying missing details about the New York concert. Read Simpson’s Liverpool review.

Where to hear the performance
For listeners who want the concert rather than a secondhand account, Legacy Recordings announced Paul Simon: The Quiet Celebration Concert as a nearly two-hour live release in 3-LP vinyl, 2-CD, and digital formats. That gives fans a recorded way to revisit the concert’s arrangements. The label’s announcement establishes the release and formats, but not current stock or streaming availability. Legacy Recordings’ announcement is the primary source for release details.
Seven Psalms is the key album to know for the show’s opening section. Its role in the program is a stronger reason to seek it out than expecting the concert to consist only of familiar hits.
