Paul Heyman’s April 5, 2024 WWE Hall of Fame speech in Philadelphia deliberately recalled ECW: he arrived amid ECW-era props and personalities, returned to his confrontational Paul E. Dangerously persona, and used explicit language. He ended by rejecting the idea that the induction marked a career’s finish.

Post Wrestling’s report places the ceremony on April 5, 2024, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The city mattered: Philadelphia was ECW’s home base, making the setting a natural fit for a speech built around the promotion’s legacy.
How did Heyman make the speech feel like ECW?
According to Post Wrestling’s event report, Heyman entered to the old WWE ECW theme and embraced Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer, and Bubba Ray Dudley. He also brought out a duster jacket, headset, old-style cellphone, and ECW hat—visual reminders of the persona and promotion he was revisiting.

- On March 13th, 2004 - The night before WrestleMania XX - World Wrestling Entertainment held a very special ceremony to induct 11 legends, Jesse "The Body" Ventura, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, Don Muraco, Big John Studd, Junkyard Dog, "Superstar" Billy Graham, Sgt. Slaughter, Tito Santana, Harley Race, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and Pete Rose, into its hallowed Hall of Fame. These are the highlights
WWE’s March 3, 2024 induction announcement traces Heyman’s history from Philadelphia-based Eastern Championship Wrestling to Extreme Championship Wrestling, describing the promotion’s move from public access to national pay-per-view. WWE also credits ECW with influencing the Attitude Era and calls it the world’s third-largest wrestling company before financial problems in 2001. That ranking is WWE’s retrospective characterization; the announcement does not supply comparative figures or a methodology.
What made the speech controversial and non-PG?
Contemporary accounts describe Heyman shifting into his Paul E. Dangerously character and using adult language. Post Wrestling reported that he said: “If you think the spirit of ECW died in a bankruptcy court in 2001, you can suck my dick!” The line tied the profanity to ECW’s financial collapse in 2001 and matched the speech’s deliberately combative tone.

What did Heyman say about Triple H?
Wrestling Inc. reported Heyman praising Paul “Triple H” Levesque’s leadership and creative direction, saying: “The way that this man has assumed the pencil of this company and has led us to a creative freedom backstage where more superstars are emerging into the main event in front of your very eyes, and the manner in which he leads us, for prosperity into that camera, for the rest of my life, I will be a Paul Levesque guy!” The published wording is Wrestling Inc.’s rendering of Heyman’s remarks.

How did the speech end?
Post Wrestling reported Heyman closing with: “This is not a lifetime achievement award… YOU AIN’T SEEN NOTHING YET!” Rather than treating the Hall of Fame honor as a farewell, he framed it as a starting point. The line supplied the speech’s final turn: an ECW-inflected celebration of the past that insisted his story was still continuing.
