Champion recalled meeting Schwarzenegger in Los Angeles after a mutual friend invited him to join a group at a bar, following her drinks date with that friend. “He got my number, asked me out, and the rest is history,” she told British Vogue. Vogue dates the start of their relationship to September 2015.
2016: They confirmed the relationship publicly
Their dating relationship began in 2015, but the public confirmation came later. According to The Knot, Champion shared an Instagram photo of the couple on February 27, 2016, with the location tagged at the University of Southern California.
2018–2022: Public appearances and milestones
September 2018: A Vogue Spain feature
The couple appeared together in a Vogue Spain feature. Champion referred to it in an Instagram caption as “More of my new @voguespain story with my man ❤️,” as reported by The Knot.

September 2019: Schwarzenegger praised Champion’s support
In remarks reported by E! News and quoted in Vogue’s engagement story, Schwarzenegger said Champion encouraged him: “I always say that in a relationship, you have to be each other’s biggest cheerleader. Build each other up. And she does that for me.”
2020 and 2022: Family time and travel
The Knot reports that Champion spent Easter 2020 with the Schwarzenegger-Shriver family, and that the couple vacationed in Capri, Italy, in July 2022. These were glimpses of their life together rather than major announced changes in their relationship.

December 2023: The engagement
Schwarzenegger and Champion announced their engagement on December 26, 2023, sharing photographs from a beach proposal. Their caption read “Forever and ever,” with ring and heart emojis, according to Vogue. British Vogue describes the proposal as taking place during an early-morning beach walk in Santa Monica, with a heart of roses laid in the sand.
2024–2025: Why the wedding was delayed
Schwarzenegger said he booked The White Lotus within days of the engagement and then had to film in Thailand for seven months. In The Knot’s account of his explanation, that schedule delayed the wedding the couple had expected to hold the following year.

March 2025: A campaign appearance
The pair appeared in the SKIMS Wedding Shop launch campaign in March 2025. The Knot described the collection as containing 24 limited-edition pieces; the campaign was a fashion project, not a relationship milestone.

The couple celebrated over three days in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, according to British Vogue. The events began with an intimate rehearsal dinner on September 4, followed by a western-themed welcome barbecue on September 5. Their ceremony took place by Lake Coeur d’Alene on September 6, 2025. British Vogue describes Champion’s gown as a Danielle Frankel design and Schwarzenegger’s outfit as a custom tuxedo; The Knot also reports September 6 as the wedding date.
