In a December 2023 interview with Nate Burleson for CBS Mornings, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes praised Taylor Swift’s place in the team’s orbit, saying she was “part of Chiefs Kingdom now” and “part of the team.” He meant that as warm, colloquial praise for her welcome around the Chiefs—not as a claim that she held a playing or staff role.
What Mahomes said about Taylor Swift
Mahomes was discussing Swift’s relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and her friendship with Brittany Mahomes. CBS Sports quoted him saying: “For us, there were a couple of jokes here and there at the beginning, but she’s just part of Chiefs Kingdom now. She’s part of the team. It’s cool that she’s embraced Brittany, and they’ve built a friendship as well. For me, it’s just Travis, man. He’s lucky enough to be with a great girl and great woman.” CBS Sports, December 22, 2023

Entertainment Tonight reported a fuller lead-in to the same answer: Mahomes said people initially gave Kelce space, then Swift began coming around and teammates realized how cool a person she was. He also described her as “top tier at her profession.” Entertainment Tonight, December 22, 2023
What “part of the team” meant
Mahomes’s wording described social acceptance within the Chiefs’ community, often called Chiefs Kingdom. His own explanation focused on Swift spending time around the players, her relationship with Kelce, and her friendship with Brittany Mahomes. It did not identify Swift as a player, employee, or member of the football staff.

The remark also acknowledged a shift in the group’s response: Mahomes said teammates made a few jokes at first, but later came to know Swift and welcomed her. The praise was personal as well as communal—he called her a great woman and admired her professional success.
The wider Chiefs attention in 2023
In a later profile, TIME reported that Mahomes said the Chiefs embraced the added visibility around Swift’s appearances. “We just embraced it. We like having that visibility,” he said. TIME also reported Mahomes’s view that Swift’s fanbase helped the team reach a more global audience; that is his characterization, not an independently established measure of how much Swift caused the team’s reach to grow.
