The Tulsa King spinoff first announced as NOLA King is now called Frisco King, and its setting has shifted from New Orleans to Frisco, Texas. Paramount+ describes the upcoming series as a story about Russell Lee Washington Jr., played by Samuel L. Jackson, turning away from a hit on Dwight Manfredi to build a new life and enterprise. The show remains part of the Tulsa King franchise, but New Orleans is no longer its announced setting.
What happened to NOLA King?
Paramount+ announced NOLA King on July 17, 2025, with Washington returning to New Orleans, the city he had left four decades earlier. By the time Paramount+’s series guide was published on April 2, 2026, the project was listed as Frisco King, formerly known as NOLA King, and its current story was set in Frisco, Texas. The guide does not explain why the title and setting changed. Paramount+’s current series guide provides the latest official description.

| July 17, 2025 announcement | NOLA King | New Orleans | Washington returns to the city he left forty years earlier and aims to take control of it. |
| Current Paramount+ guide, April 2, 2026 | Frisco King, formerly NOLA King | Frisco, Texas | Washington declines an assignment to kill Dwight Manfredi and sets out to start a new life and enterprise. |
The original announcement said Washington had befriended Dwight in federal prison and was sent to Tulsa by the Renzetti crime family to kill him. That New Orleans return was the story announced at the time; the current guide instead describes Washington setting out for Frisco after refusing the hit. Paramount’s original announcement records the earlier version.
What is Frisco King about?
Paramount+ describes Washington as a hitman working for New York mobsters. When he declines an assignment to kill Dwight Manfredi, he sets out to start over and build an enterprise in Frisco, Texas. The series is a spinoff of Tulsa King, and the current guide says Washington was introduced in that show’s third season.

This makes the connection to Tulsa King a character-and-story one: the guide ties Washington’s new story to his decision not to kill Dwight. It does not present Frisco King as a continuation of the previously announced plan to seize control of New Orleans.
Who is making the series, and who is in the cast?
Taylor Sheridan is set to write all eight episodes of the first season. Paramount+ lists Sheridan, Sylvester Stallone, Samuel L. Jackson, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Christina Alexandra Voros, Michael Friedman, and Keith Cox as executive producers. Voros and Friedman are also named as directors.

Jackson leads the series as Russell Lee Washington Jr. Paramount+ announced Asa Germann, Kai Caster, Lilah Pate, and Savanna Gann as additional cast on March 5, 2026. The casting announcement does not identify their characters. Paramount+’s cast announcement names the performers and directors.
When does Frisco King premiere, and where can you watch it?
Paramount+ says filming began in Fort Worth, Texas, in March 2026. Its guide does not give a premiere date and identifies Paramount+ as the planned streaming destination. As of the guide’s April 2, 2026 update, viewers should treat the series as upcoming rather than as a show with a confirmed release window.

How Paramount+ described Tulsa King’s performance
In its July 2025 announcement, Paramount+ called Tulsa King its number-one global original series in 2024, based on the company’s internal global streaming data. The same release said the show ranked among the top 10 original series across all subscription video-on-demand services in the fourth quarter of 2024; that ranking was based on Nielsen minutes viewed among people aged two and older, excluding movies. These are company-reported rankings, not an audience-total figure.
