Paramount announced a deal with Activision on September 2, 2025, to develop, produce and distribute a live-action feature based on the Call of Duty franchise. The announcement confirmed the partnership, but not a game installment, story, cast or release date.
What did Paramount and Activision announce?
Paramount said it had signed a film deal with Activision to develop, produce and distribute a live-action Call of Duty feature. Activision is part of Microsoft, but Paramount named Activision as its film partner; the announcement did not identify Microsoft as a separate producer. Paramount’s September 2, 2025 announcement said the creative goal was to respect the franchise’s narrative and style while reaching existing fans and new audiences. That is the companies’ stated intention, not a guarantee of how viewers will respond.
Who is attached to make the film?
The Associated Press reported on October 30, 2025, that Peter Berg would direct, co-write and produce the movie, and Taylor Sheridan would co-write and produce it. AP said further details were not then available. These are reported creative attachments, not details stated in Paramount’s initial deal announcement. Read AP’s October 30 report.
What is known about the movie’s story and release?
The cited announcements and reporting do not identify which Call of Duty game, if any, will provide the story; they also do not name characters, a setting, a cast or a plot. No release date or production schedule is given in these sources.

In its February 25, 2026 shareholder letter, Paramount listed a forthcoming Call of Duty adaptation in partnership with Activision among projects planned for 2027 and beyond. “2027 and beyond” describes the company’s slate horizon, not a release date for this film, and the letter does not establish that production has begun. AP reported on October 30, 2025, that Call of Duty had sold more than 500 million copies globally. That is the figure AP reported at that time, not a newly verified sales count for 2026. The franchise’s scale helps explain the companies’ interest in a film, but it does not reveal which part of the series the adaptation will use.
