Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar-winning dark fantasy Pan’s Labyrinth is scheduled to return to U.S. theaters beginning October 9, 2026, for a 20th-anniversary engagement. Fathom Entertainment and Cineverse have announced 2D HDR, 3D and HDR by Barco presentation options, but formats, showtimes and ticket availability depend on the theater.
When is Pan’s Labyrinth returning to theaters?
Fathom Entertainment announced an opening date of October 9, 2026, for the U.S. theatrical event. Its event page lists screenings from October 8 through October 15, while Cineverse also lists the anniversary release for October 9. Because the dates and participating screenings can vary by location, use Fathom’s event listing to select a theater and check its current showtimes and ticket status.

Will the anniversary screenings be in 3D or 4K?
Cineverse and Fathom have announced a 4K presentation, with versions available in 3D and HDR by Barco. Fathom also identifies a 2D HDR version. Guillermo del Toro oversaw each announced version. These are event-wide format options, not a promise that every participating theater or showtime will offer each one; check the format shown on the local ticket listing before buying.
Cannes Classics separately describes its 2026 presentation as a 4K restoration from the original 35mm negative, personally overseen by del Toro. That specific restoration description should not be assumed to describe every format or theatrical presentation in the U.S. engagement.

How to choose a screening
- Open Fathom’s event listing and select your location.
- Compare the participating theaters and showtimes available there.
- Check the format attached to each screening—such as 2D, 2D HDR, 3D or HDR by Barco—and confirm the ticket price and availability with the theater’s listing.
No single format is established as the best choice for every viewer or venue; the local listing is the source for what is actually on offer.
What is Pan’s Labyrinth about?
Released in 2006, Pan’s Labyrinth—El laberinto del fauno in Spanish—was written and directed by Guillermo del Toro. The story is set in Spain in 1944. Ofelia is sent to live with her ruthless stepfather, and her encounter with a fairy and an old faun leads to three tasks. The film brings its fantasy story into contact with the violence of the world around her.
Ivana Baquero plays Ofelia, with Sergi López as Vidal, Maribel Verdú as Mercedes, and Doug Jones as both the Faun and the Pale Man. The cast also includes Ariadna Gil as Carmen and Álex Angulo as Doctor Ferreiro.

The 20th-anniversary engagement gives audiences a chance to see the film on a theatrical screen again, including in the announced premium-format options. At the 79th Academy Awards in 2007, it received six nominations and won three Oscars: cinematography, art direction and makeup, according to Fathom’s announcement.
Cannes Classics reported in 2026 that the film had received more than 100 awards worldwide. The festival also recalled a 22-minute standing ovation at its 2006 premiere, which it called the longest in the festival’s history. These are Cannes’s reported figures.
In Fathom’s April 9, 2026 announcement, CEO Ray Nutt described the theatrical return as an opportunity for audiences to rediscover the film on a big screen and highlighted premium large-format options, including 3D. That is the distributor’s promotional framing; the film’s reputation ultimately rests with viewers.
