The trailer debuted July 22, 2024; Apple TV Press describes its Rosé cover of Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” as a new moving cover. Calling the trailer breathtaking is our reaction, not a reported critical consensus.

What the trailer previews
Sunja in Osaka, 1945
One storyline follows Sunja in Osaka during World War II, as she faces dangerous decisions to protect her family. The period setting gives the trailer’s tension a personal focus: survival and family choices amid the war.
Solomon in Tokyo, 1989
The other timeline moves to Tokyo in 1989, where Solomon explores new beginnings. The series alternates between these distant periods rather than following a single continuous present-day story.

- In this gorgeous, page-turning saga, four generations of a poor Korean immigrant family fight to control their destiny in 20th-century Japan, exiled from a home they never knew.
Rosé’s “Viva La Vida” cover
The trailer features Rosé, of BLACKPINK, covering Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida.” Apple TV Press said the cover also appears in the season finale. Apple’s announcement called it “a brand-new moving cover”; that description is Apple’s, rather than a quote from a named artist or interview.
Cast, languages and viewing details
Season 2 stars Lee Minho, Yuh-Jung Youn, Minha Kim, Jin Ha, Anna Sawai, Eunchae Jung, Soji Arai, Junwoo Han and Sungkyu Kim. Soo Hugh created and wrote the series and is an executive producer. Apple names Leanne Welham, Arvin Chen and Sang-il Lee as Season 2 directors.
Rank #2
Apple describes the series as told in Korean, Japanese and English, and its series page lists the title as TV-MA. In Apple’s U.S. listing, the season premiere, “Chapter Nine,” is rated TV-MA and runs 52 minutes. Episode lengths can vary: Apple’s U.S. listing gives “Chapter Fourteen,” Season 2’s sixth episode, a 47-minute runtime and a September 27, 2024 release date. That listing’s synopsis says Hansu is at the top of the criminal underworld five years after the war ends.
