Ozzy Osbourne’s public funeral procession passed through Birmingham on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, with thousands of fans gathered along Broad Street to pay tribute. This gallery documents the public cortege and its stop at the Black Sabbath bench; the family’s funeral service afterward was private.
Fans and tributes gather before the cortege
People lined Broad Street and gathered around floral displays before the procession arrived. Birmingham City Council announced a 1 p.m. start for the public tribute, which it arranged with the family. Accounts describe thousands of fans, but do not establish a precise attendance total. Birmingham City Council’s announcement
Ozzy Osbourne, who died aged 76, was a Birmingham native. Black Sabbath formed in the city in 1968, and the band’s memorial bench was unveiled in 2019. The hometown setting shaped the tribute: fans brought flowers and messages to a route that connected the city center with the band’s history. Associated Press coverage and gallery
The hearse travels along Broad Street
Photographs show the cortege moving through the city center toward the Black Sabbath bench on the Broad Street canal bridge. LBC reported that the hearse had passed Osbourne’s childhood home in Aston at about 12:45 p.m., before the city-center procession; that earlier route moment is distinct from the council’s announced 1 p.m. start.
