They did not disclose what prompted that specific hospital stay. Sharon Osbourne said the family feared the news would leak and took steps to protect his privacy.
What the family said about the hospitalization
In an episode of The Osbournes Podcast published November 12, 2025, Sharon, Jack and Kelly Osbourne discussed Ozzy’s final months and his determination to perform. It was the family’s first episode after his death. Rolling Stone’s account of the conversation says Sharon described a return to the hospital about two weeks before the July 5 concert.
The family did not identify the reason for that particular admission. The timing and fact of the stay come from their account; a diagnosis or cause for it has not been established in the reporting.
Why the family tried to keep it private
Sharon said the family was “terrified that people were going to find out.” She described giving hospital staff and security instructions to restrict access, including providing photographs of people approved to visit.

In one mix-up she recounted, a man arrived saying he was Ozzy’s brother and asking for “John Osbourne.” He was the brother of another patient with the same name, according to Sharon. Her account describes the family’s efforts to guard Ozzy’s privacy; it does not establish that the hospital independently decided to keep the admission secret.
How the stay fits into his final months
The family also discussed serious health problems in the months before the concert, including a December 2024 fall that fractured a vertebra, pneumonia, spinal surgery and sepsis. Those events are background to the family’s account, not a disclosed explanation for the separate pre-concert hospitalization.
