What is JJ’s big reveal in the season 4 part 1 finale?
At the end of part 1, JJ learns that Luke is not his biological father. The interview identifies JJ as the son of the late Larissa Genrette and Chandler Groff. That disclosure challenges what JJ had believed about his family; it does not erase the relationships that have shaped his life.
Julia Moore’s PEOPLE interview, hosted by Yahoo Entertainment, frames the moment as a major bombshell for JJ and asks what Pogues can expect from him after it.
How does Rudy Pankow say JJ reacts?
Pankow says JJ is “still in denial.” As the actor describes it, the revelation immediately unsettles JJ’s sense of belonging: he wonders where he fits and whether his friends will see him differently. Pankow’s reading is that JJ has not yet fully accepted what the information means for his identity.

Why the Pogue identity matters
Pankow describes being a Pogue as foundational to JJ. He portrays the character as impulsive and as someone who has survived by scrapping through difficult circumstances. In that interpretation, the news about JJ’s biological parents threatens more than his understanding of Luke; it puts pressure on the identity and group connection JJ relies on.
What does Pankow tease for JJ in part 2?
Pankow anticipates that JJ will lash out both internally and externally. He says JJ is also trying to keep Kiara and the rest of the group close, adding pressure as he spirals. Chase Stokes, who plays John B., sums up the tension: “You can only contain the beast for so long.” Pankow answers, “Yeah. You’ve got to let it out somehow. And I can tell you, he’s going to let it out.” These are the actors’ comments about JJ, not a full account of every event in part 2.

Pankow says JJ struggles with what being in a relationship entails and connects that difficulty to not having a good model in Luke. He also says JJ’s wants and desires may not always line up with Kiara’s, while JJ feels pressure to keep his friends near him. The interview presents their relationship as unsettled; it does not confirm a specific outcome for the couple.
