Netflix describes del Toro’s film as an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s gothic novel. Its three wins recognize the visual construction of that adaptation through costumes, makeup and hairstyling, and production design. After the production-design win, Tamara Deverell thanked del Toro, saying: “Thank you for your humanity and your artistry. You are truly a master storyteller.
