When were the 2026 Oscar nominations announced?
The Academy announced nominees for the 98th Oscars on Thursday, January 22, 2026. Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman hosted the presentation from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The broadcast began at 5:30 a.m. PT, with the remaining categories announced at 5:41 a.m. PT. The Academy distributed it through Oscars.org, Oscar.com and its digital platforms, as well as ABC’s Good Morning America, ABC News Live, Disney+, Hulu, broadcast media and an international satellite feed. Who led the 2026 Oscar nominations?

Who was left out, and what does “snub” mean?
“Snub” is commentary, not an official Academy designation. It describes a perceived omission: a performer, film or craft that someone expected or hoped to see nominated but did not. The word reflects an assessment of expectations, not a separate Academy decision.

Academy members in each of 19 branches selected nominees in their respective categories. The Academy described four exceptions: nominees for Animated Feature Film, Animated Short Film, International Feature Film and Live Action Short Film were chosen by eligible members from all branches who opted in.
