Spoilers for “Valley of the Dolls.” After the threat at the Arconia, Charles, Oliver and Mabel flee to Charles’s sister Doreen’s Long Island home—only to find that her “safe house” is anything but safe. The October 8, 2024 episode trades some murder-case progress for relationship upheaval, a chaotic gathering and a final, ominous Westies beat.
What happens in “Valley of the Dolls”?
The trio’s retreat to Doreen’s house sets off a chain reaction: the location gets shared, more people arrive, and the supposed refuge fills with competing anxieties. Howard, studio executive Bev Melon, Loretta and the actors playing Charles, Oliver and Mabel all end up in the mix. The crowded house turns the escape into a pressure cooker rather than a secure place to lie low.

Doreen is lonely and emotionally vulnerable. When Oliver confides that he and Loretta have broken up, Doreen develops a crush on him. That attraction soon collides with Loretta’s arrival and the real reason for the split.
Why did Oliver and Loretta break up—and how do they reconcile?
Oliver ended the relationship by text after misunderstanding a message. Loretta explains that the message he misread came from her stand-in, not from her. The clarification helps the two find their way back to each other, but Oliver also has to own up to a less flattering detail: he used a fake social-media account called Ronnie to gather information about Loretta.

Doreen’s jealousy escalates into a fight with Loretta. Afterward, Loretta proposes to Oliver with a bracelet taken from one of Doreen’s dolls, and Oliver accepts. The engagement resolves their relationship story in this episode; it is not the season’s later wedding event.
What do Charles and Doreen work out?
Amid the household chaos, Charles and Doreen talk about the emotional distance between them as children. They acknowledge what their relationship has lacked and commit to staying in each other’s lives. It is a small but meaningful shift for the siblings, separate from the murder investigation unfolding around them.

What is the actors’ murder-wall theory?
Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis and Eugene Levy bring their actors’ habit of observing people and details to the case, assembling a murder wall from clues the trio has encountered across earlier seasons. They revisit unresolved questions, including who poisoned Oliver’s dog Winnie and who left the note on Jan’s wall. Their conclusion is that Charles, Oliver and Mabel may have been targeted since the first season.
That is the actors’ theory at this point, not a mystery solved by episode 7. The episode connects old loose ends to a possible long-running threat, but does not establish who is behind it.

What does the ending mean for the Westies?
Howard traces multiple check cashings connected to Dudenoff to a single phone number. When he calls it, Vince Fish answers. Vince then tells the other Westies, “They know.” The line puts the Westies back at the center of the suspense, but the episode leaves unclear what Vince believes they know or what he plans to do next.
How the episode balances comedy and mystery
“Valley of the Dolls” makes the crowded safe house its comic engine, while giving Oliver and Loretta a relationship repair, Doreen and Charles a moment of connection, and the actors a fresh angle on the show’s accumulated clues. The murder plot advances mainly through the actors’ speculation and Howard’s phone call; the emotional resolutions are more definite than the case answers.

Series co-creator John Hoffman described the Loretta–Doreen fight scene in a TVLine interview, recalling that he told Meryl Streep, “There’s going to be a catfight, basically over Oliver, between you and Melissa McCarthy.” Hoffman said Streep replied, “I bet on me.”
