If a OneStream Live video upload fails, first check which feature you are uploading to: standard video uploads support MP4, MOV, and M4V, while Studio clips support MP4, MOV, and WebM. For a standard upload, OneStream recommends an MP4 encoded with H.264 video and AAC audio. A supported filename extension alone does not guarantee that the file’s codec, upload, or processing is sound.
Check which OneStream upload feature you are using
OneStream Live publishes different format and size guidance for standard video uploads and OneStream Live Studio clips. Use the row that matches the upload surface; the lists and limits are not interchangeable.

The standard-upload maximum and cloud-storage guidance come from OneStream Live’s FAQ, updated March 12, 2025. Its recommended-video settings were last updated September 8, 2026. Fix a failed standard video upload
- Confirm the upload surface and file size. For a standard video, use MP4, MOV, or M4V. If uploading directly from a device, the published maximum is 10 GB; the FAQ states no size limit for cloud-storage uploads. A Studio clip instead needs to be MP4, MOV, or WebM and no larger than 40 MB.
- Verify the file is complete and playable. Open it locally and check that it plays through without freezing or interruptions, that its frames are intact, and that both audio and video are present. If playback is faulty, export or obtain a fresh copy before trying again.
- Check the actual codecs and frame rate. A .mp4 suffix does not tell you whether the video is encoded with a recommended codec. For a standard upload, export an MP4 using H.264 (AVC) video and AAC audio at a constant 30 FPS. If practical, follow OneStream’s recommended 1920 × 1080 resolution, video bitrate of 1500–6000 Kbps, and 128 Kbps audio bitrate.
- Let the upload and processing finish. Do not close or interrupt the upload. Confirm it completed, then wait for processing before scheduling or testing the video. If processing remains stuck for an extended period, OneStream’s troubleshooting guidance suggests uploading a fresh copy.
- Retry with a clean copy. If appropriate, remove the failed upload, upload the fresh export, and wait for processing to finish. Test the stream before the scheduled event rather than discovering a media issue at airtime.
For an unsupported source file, OneStream’s conversion guidance recommends rendering it into a supported format with video-editing software or using an online converter; it names HandBrake as a free software example. For a standard upload, target MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio.

If the upload works but the stream fails
A successful upload does not rule out scheduling, destination, or connectivity problems. OneStream’s pre-recorded streaming troubleshooting also identifies these checks:
- Schedule: Check the event date and time, and verify the event has not expired.
- Destination connection: Confirm the destination remains connected. Check authentication, permissions, stream key, and settings; reconnect if needed.
- Network: Avoid interrupting an upload and use a stable connection with enough upload bandwidth. A wired connection is preferable where possible; it can help with network instability, but will not repair an incompatible codec or damaged file.
- Playback: If the video uploads but playback fails, confirm it contains both audio and video and uses compatible codecs. Refresh the player, try another browser or device, and check whether the destination platform is having playback issues.
