Shutenmaru is central to the episode’s title and earlier action: Luffy’s group hears about Ashura Doji, also known as Shutenmaru, and Shutenmaru clashes with Jack. The closing turn shifts attention to Onigashima, where a drunken Kaido changes form and appears before Luffy’s group. ONE PIECE.com’s Episode 912 page gives the official Japanese title and synopsis. Crunchyroll lists the localized title and describes the episode as 23 minutes; its catalog’s audio and subtitle options may vary by territory and date.
What happens at the end of Episode 912?
The episode’s final reveal is Kaido’s dragon transformation and arrival before Luffy’s group. It is a cliffhanger built around the sight of the transformed Kaido, rather than the full sequence of threats that follows. The distinction matters when recapping the scene: Episode 912 introduces the dragon; the next episode carries the danger forward.
#1 Best Overall
- The world's greatest exposition of the pirates, by the pirates, for the pirates - the Pirates Festival. Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat Crew receive an invitation from its host Buena Festa who is known as the Master of Festivities. They arrive to find a venue packed with glamorous pavilions and many pirates including the ones from the Worst Generation. The place is electric.
Episode 913 continues the attack
According to Crunchyroll’s Episode 913 synopsis, Kaido flies over Okobore Town in dragon form, threatens Shutenmaru and the townspeople, and then heads toward the ruins of Oden Castle. Those developments belong to Episode 913, not the Episode 912 ending.
Is Kaido’s dragon reveal different in the manga?
Yes—the timing and presentation differ. In its adaptation comparison, Crunchyroll News describes the anime as showing Kaido’s full transformation before Law identifies him. The feature places the manga’s reveal at the end of Chapter 921, emphasizing the sudden appearance of the dragon image.
Rank #2
| Version | How the reveal is staged | What the audience knows |
|---|---|---|
| Manga, Chapter 921 | The dragon reveal arrives at the chapter’s end. | The sequence emphasizes the sudden reveal. |
| Anime, Episode 912 | The transformation is shown before Law identifies Kaido. | Viewers see the change first; the episode ends with Kaido’s appearance. |
This comparison reflects Crunchyroll’s analysis, published December 2, 2019, and updated May 18, 2023; it describes a difference in staging, not a change to the basic event.

The official Volume 91 page lists chapters 911–921 and labels the volume “Adventure in the Land of Samurai.” Since Crunchyroll places the manga reveal at the end of Chapter 921, Volume 91 is the relevant physical volume for reading the surrounding Wano material. It is manga source material, not an anime release.
