It is a fan theory, not an identity confirmed by the official material reviewed for this article. Discussions point to visual resemblance and questions about the timeline and Wado Ichimonji, but those are clues fans debate—not proof on their own.
What the theory proposes
The theory links Denjiro, a character in the Wano flashback, with Koushirou, whom an official One Piece character-search result identifies as Zoro’s teacher and Kuina’s father. The proposed identity appears in fan discussions, including arguments based on resemblance, chronology and the history of Wado Ichimonji. Those posts document the theory’s appeal, but they are not authoritative evidence about the story.
The official Chapter 960 page is available from VIZ, but it is labeled “Join to read,” and its accessible page metadata does not reveal the chapter’s narrative text. The official pages reviewed therefore do not establish that Denjiro and Koushirou are the same person—or settle the theory either way.
What Chapter 960’s place in the story tells us
VIZ lists Chapter 960 between Chapters 959 and 961. Shueisha’s Japanese print listing for Volume 95 includes Chapters 954–964, including Chapter 960, titled 「光月おでん登場」. The volume’s Japanese print date is December 28, 2019, and its ISBN is 978-4-08-882169-6. These bibliographic details place the chapter in the collected sequence; they do not answer the identity question.

Some fan discussion says Chapter 969 disproves the theory. Shueisha’s listing for Volume 96 confirms that it contains Chapters 965–974, including Chapter 969, titled 「バカ殿」, and gives a Japanese print date of April 3, 2020, and ISBN 978-4-08-882252-5. A contents listing does not expose Chapter 969’s story, so it cannot independently verify that claim.
How to assess the clues without treating them as confirmation
Visual resemblance
Fans cite similarities in appearance. A resemblance can prompt a theory, but it cannot by itself establish that two characters are one person. To weigh this clue, compare the licensed story pages directly and separate what is visibly shown from what readers infer.

Timeline
Chronology is another point raised in fan discussion. A sound timeline argument needs the relevant events and ages from the story itself; the official chapter and volume listings cited here provide publication and contents information, not those narrative details.
Wado Ichimonji
Some readers bring up the sword’s history. That argument likewise depends on the story’s actual account of the sword and its owners. The accessible official pages reviewed here do not supply that account, so it should be treated as a question for direct chapter reading, not as evidence established by these listings.
