What happens in chapter 1156?
A secondary chapter reference identifies the chapter as “Idols” and summarizes its flashback as bringing the Kuja Pirates, the Roger Pirates, and Marines under Garp’s command into the same historical context. It names Gloriosa and Shakuyaku among the Kuja crew. This is a broad summary, not a panel-by-panel account; consult the chapter itself for specific events and details. See the secondary chapter reference.
Does chapter 1156 start the God Valley incident?
It is safer to describe chapter 1156 as part of the God Valley storyline than to say that it alone begins or depicts the whole incident. The official Japanese collected-volume index labels volume 114 “The God Valley Incident” and groups chapters 1156–1166 in that volume. That establishes the arc’s volume-wide framing, not the extent of the incident shown in chapter 1156 specifically. Check the official collected-volume index.

For the collected-edition context, the official Japanese index places chapters 1156 through 1166 together in volume 114, titled “The God Valley Incident.” Readers looking for a book-format route can use that volume as a reference, but its Japanese listing does not confirm the contents or availability of an English edition.
