What happens in One Piece Chapter 1117?
Vegapunk’s message to everyone who carries the initial D is interrupted before he can finish it. The official English chapter ends with the fragment, “Within you there is a—,” while the Japanese title and final surviving sound are も (Mo). Chapter 1117 does not reveal what the D means, identify a traitor, or confirm that the missing words refer to a particular character.
At the same time, the Egghead escape reaches a critical point. The Frontier Dome begins to fall, the Thousand Sunny is prepared for its Coup de Burst, Zoro and Jinbe intercept Nusjuro, and the Giants try to break through a Marine blockade. The Five Elders then converge on the Ancient Robot—and Warcury’s attack finally cuts Vegapunk’s worldwide broadcast.

One Piece Chapter 1117 spoilers
Warning: full spoilers for manga chapter 1117 follow. This is One Piece manga chapter 1117, not anime episode 1117. The chapter’s official VIZ English title is “A”. It was released in English on June 17, 2024.
The world reacts to Vegapunk’s revelation
The chapter opens away from Egghead as people around the world continue responding to Vegapunk’s broadcast. His statement that the world’s sea level rose by approximately 200 meters in the distant past has left governments, civilians, and pirates trying to understand what it means for the present world.
Some people also begin asking what Gol D. Roger’s crew discovered during its journey to Laugh Tale. If Roger and his crew learned the truth behind the world’s history, the Ancient Kingdom, and the rising sea, why did they not publicly reveal it or act against the World Government?
The chapter does not answer that question. Instead, it expands the consequences of Vegapunk’s message beyond Egghead and shows that the broadcast is forcing ordinary people to reconsider the silence surrounding Roger’s final voyage.

At Marine Headquarters’ GS General Hospital, members of SWORD are recovering from the recent conflict. X Drake is alive, but he wants to be left alone. Smoker contacts Tashigi, who says she is at the hospital.
This brief scene confirms Drake’s survival while continuing the chapter’s broader pattern: Vegapunk’s message is affecting people and institutions far beyond the island. The Marines are dealing not only with the physical consequences of Egghead, but also with the implications of the information now circulating around the world.
The Egghead escape begins to move
Back on Egghead, the Frontier Dome’s barrier starts to fall. The strange cloud formation also stops extending, suggesting that the defensive situation around the island is changing rapidly.

However, Jinbe is not taking a leisurely detour: he is pursuing Nusjuro, who is heading directly toward the Sunny. The danger is approaching the Straw Hats’ escape route rather than remaining somewhere else on the island.
Zoro and Jinbe intercept Nusjuro
Nusjuro reaches the Thousand Sunny and prepares to attack. Jinbe responds by using Kata Guruma to throw Zoro toward him. Zoro intercepts Nusjuro’s attack with a two-sword technique, and the two swordsmen clash.
The encounter has an additional point of interest: Zoro and Nusjuro recognize the Kitetsu swords being used by the other. Their exchange does not settle the full history of the blades, but it reinforces the importance of the Kitetsu line and gives the confrontation a personal swordsmanship connection.
Zoro tells the rest of the crew to leave first. He and Jinbe intend to jump aboard afterward, turning their clash with Nusjuro into a delaying action that keeps the Sunny’s departure possible.
Bonney, Luffy, and the Giants fight through the blockade
At the island’s northeast coast, Bonney calls out for Luffy while Marines surround the Giants’ ship. Luffy shouts that he is almost there and tells the crew to keep moving.
The Giants’ ship begins forcing its way through the blockade. Vice Admiral Bluegrass uses a Sea Beast Weapon to blast a hole in the ship, creating a serious threat to the escape. Doll then knocks out Kashii with her attack, Rock ’n’ Roll Blaster, helping restore the Marines’ confidence after the damage to their formation.

Luffy has returned to his normal form by this point. The Giants are relieved when he realizes that Warcury is no longer pursuing them. However, Warcury has not abandoned the conflict. He has gone to join Saturn, Mars, and Ju Peter in confronting the Ancient Robot.
The Five Elders surround the Ancient Robot
The Elders recognize the Ancient Robot as the enormous machine connected to an attack on Mary Geoise approximately 200 years earlier. This is an important confirmation of the robot’s historical significance.

Chapter 1117 does not explain exactly what the robot did during that incident or why it attacked Mary Geoise. It does, however, connect the machine in the present directly to a major event from the world’s recent recorded history. The Elders clearly understand that they are dealing with the same ancient threat—or at least the same machine—that once reached the heart of the World Government.
As the Elders surround the robot, the situation becomes more than an escape battle. The machine is now at the center of the conflict between the World Government and the buried history that Vegapunk has been trying to expose.
Vegapunk’s message to the D-bearers is cut off
Just as the Elders close in, Vegapunk announces that he has one final message. This time, he addresses people throughout the world who carry the initial D.
The official English version begins the surviving fragment with:

“Within you there is a—”
Before Vegapunk can complete the sentence, Warcury tackles the Ancient Robot. The impact disrupts the signal and ends the worldwide broadcast. York collapses in relief once the transmission finally stops.

The Japanese chapter ends with も, commonly romanized as Mo. That single Japanese fragment does not independently establish the missing English word. Fan translations and early spoiler discussions interpreted the unfinished line in different ways, but those interpretations should not be presented as confirmed information from the chapter.
What Chapter 1117 reveals about the initial D
The only confirmed information is that Vegapunk was about to tell the world something additional about, or connected to, the people who bear the initial D. The broadcast is interrupted before the thought is completed.
Chapter 1117 does not confirm any of the following:
- the meaning of the initial D;
- the identity of a D-clan traitor;
- that the missing word is a person’s name;
- that the line refers specifically to “another,” “also,” or “a traitor”;
- that a particular current character is secretly responsible for betraying the D-bearers.
The official English title, “A,” mirrors the incomplete sentence. The Japanese title, も, similarly reflects the last fragment that survives before the transmission is stopped. Both titles emphasize incompletion rather than providing a hidden, confirmed answer.
Why the interruption matters
As plot, the interruption preserves one of the series’ biggest mysteries. Vegapunk gets close enough to make the D-bearers the focus of his final statement, but the reader is denied the decisive word.
As interpretation, the scene also echoes the broader history Vegapunk has been describing. The World Government has suppressed information about the Void Century and the Ancient Kingdom, and now one of its most powerful figures physically stops a message about the D at the moment it might become crucial. That parallel is a thematic reading of the chapter, not a statement that the chapter explicitly makes.
The interruption is therefore not an accidental cliffhanger. Warcury’s attack simultaneously protects the World Government’s secrets, prevents the D-bearers from receiving the message, and leaves the Ancient Robot’s role unresolved.

Where to read Chapter 1117 officially
Readers can find the English chapter through VIZ’s official Shonen Jump chapter archive or through MANGA Plus by Shueisha, which identifies itself as an official Shueisha service. These are the appropriate sources for reading the released chapter rather than relying on unofficial fan translations, especially when the exact wording of the final cliffhanger matters.
Is Chapter 1117 included in One Piece Vol. 111?
For English-language readers and collectors, the official VIZ collection to look for is One Piece Vol. 111. VIZ lists the edition as a 224-page Shonen Jump paperback with ISBN 978-1-9747-6228-6, and its description covers Vegapunk’s world-shaking message and the Straw Hats’ attempt to escape Egghead. The VIZ product page also displays Amazon as a retail option, although price and stock can change.
There is a numbering distinction worth noting. The Japanese official comics listing identifies volume 110 as containing chapters 1111 through 1121, which includes chapter 1117. The corresponding English collection is marketed by VIZ as One Piece Vol. 111. For English shopping or collecting, use the VIZ designation rather than calling chapter 1117 part of Japanese volume 111.
Chapter 1117 ending explained
Chapter 1117 ends with three unresolved developments:
- The D message: Vegapunk begins an important statement to D-bearers, but Warcury stops the broadcast before the sentence is complete.
- The Ancient Robot: The Five Elders confirm its connection to the attack on Mary Geoise approximately 200 years ago, but the robot’s full history remains unknown.
- The escape: Zoro and Jinbe are still confronting Nusjuro, while the Giants’ ship attempts to break through the Marine blockade and the Sunny prepares for Coup de Burst.
The chapter provides major movement in the Egghead escape and adds historical context for the Ancient Robot, but it deliberately withholds the expected lore payoff. Any explanation of what Vegapunk intended to say after “Within you there is a—” remains a theory until the manga supplies the missing words.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Chapter 1117 reveal the meaning of the initial D?
No. Chapter 1117 only shows Vegapunk beginning an additional statement to people who carry the initial D. The broadcast is interrupted before he reveals the meaning of D or identifies a traitor.
What does the title “A” mean in One Piece Chapter 1117?
The title mirrors the unfinished English line, “Within you there is a—.” The Japanese title is も (Mo), but that fragment does not prove a specific missing word or character name.
Is the Ancient Robot connected to the attack on Mary Geoise?
Yes. The Elders recognize the Ancient Robot as the same enormous machine connected to an attack on Mary Geoise approximately 200 years earlier.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Chapter 1117 does not solve the mystery of the initial D. It ends just as Vegapunk begins addressing the D-bearers, with the broadcast cut off by Warcury’s attack. The rest of the chapter advances the Egghead escape and confirms that the Ancient Robot is tied to the attack on Mary Geoise roughly 200 years ago.
