OBS YouTube Stream Keeps Buffering on JioFiber: Settings to Check

When an OBS YouTube stream buffers on JioFiber, first determine whether OBS is dropping frames or viewers alone are buffering. Then check upload headroom, encoder settings, and the network path.

First check whether OBS is dropping frames. If its dropped-frames counter is rising, troubleshoot the outgoing connection and bitrate. If the counter stays stable while viewers buffer, investigate YouTube’s stream health and the viewers’ playback conditions instead. Neither symptom alone proves JioFiber is at fault.

Start by finding out where the buffering occurs

If OBS shows dropped frames

Watch the dropped-frames counter in the OBS main window during the stream. OBS defines dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot sustain the selected bitrate. That points toward the broadcaster-to-YouTube connection; it does not identify JioFiber as the cause. OBS says dropped frames are extremely unlikely to be caused by OBS Studio itself. See the OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide.

If the counter is stable but viewers buffer

Do not start by lowering encoder settings. OBS notes that viewers may report buffering even when the streamer is not dropping frames. Check stream health and warnings in YouTube Live Control Room, then compare playback on another device or network. Viewers’ locations, devices, and internet connections differ; YouTube also transcodes live streams into multiple output formats, but that does not remove every viewer-side limitation. See OBS’s Stream Buffering Troubleshooting and YouTube’s live encoder guidance.

Set a bitrate your upload can sustain

Use upload capacity, not download speed, to judge whether your stream bitrate is feasible. YouTube recommends keeping total stream bitrate within available upload bandwidth and leaving 20% of that bandwidth in reserve. Other people using the same connection can reduce what is available to OBS. OBS suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting point when reducing bitrate to address dropped frames. These are general guidelines, not JioFiber-specific performance measurements; actual routing and network conditions vary.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Check your available upload speed while the connection is in the condition you normally stream in. Avoid treating a single speed-test result as guaranteed capacity throughout a broadcast.
  2. In OBS, open Settings → Output and lower Video Bitrate if dropped frames are increasing. Choose a rate that leaves headroom rather than using all measured upload capacity.
  3. Change one setting at a time, stream long enough to observe the counter, and note whether dropped frames change. Lowering bitrate can reduce picture quality, so balance stability against the detail your content needs.

YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations include 6 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps and 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. The recommended values differ for H.265 and AV1. These are encoder recommendations, not universal minimums or guaranteed safe rates for a particular JioFiber connection. Consult the current row for your codec, resolution, and frame rate in YouTube’s encoder settings.

Check YouTube’s encoder requirements

Use the requirements that match your stream and look for specific warnings in Live Control Room before making unrelated changes. YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum interval of four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted extension to RTMP.

  • Bitrate encoding: Set the encoder to CBR, as YouTube specifies.
  • Keyframe interval: Set two seconds if your encoder exposes this option; do not exceed four seconds. At 30 fps, a two-second interval is 60 frames.
  • Ingestion warnings: YouTube says keyframes sent too infrequently can cause buffering. Treat a specific Live Control Room warning as stronger evidence than generic trial and error, and correct the setting it identifies.

For ordinary SDR streams, YouTube’s guidance lists Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth. These are not the first settings to change for a buffering symptom unless your stream configuration or a YouTube warning makes them relevant.

Test OBS network settings one at a time

OBS documents these checks for connection-related dropped frames. Labels and availability can vary by OBS version and operating system, so a control may not appear on every system. Record the starting value and test only one change at a time.

  • Try another server where applicable: In Settings → Stream, test a different server if the service offers a choice. This can help isolate a route-specific problem, but changing servers does not itself fix the underlying network route.
  • Check IP binding: Open Settings → Advanced → Network and ensure Bind to IP is set to Default.
  • Test IPv4: In the same network settings, try IP Family set to IPv4 Only. If that makes no difference, OBS recommends returning to the IPv4 and IPv6 default.
  • Windows-only options: If available, OBS suggests testing Enable network optimizations and Enable TCP pacing; some users report benefit, but results can vary.
  • Dynamic bitrate: Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion (Beta) may reduce dropped frames when the connection cannot keep up. OBS cautions that it does not solve the root cause and can reduce video quality.

These options are listed in OBS’s connection troubleshooting guidance. If a test makes no difference, revert it before moving on.

Rule out Wi-Fi, software, and local equipment

Compare wired and wireless connections

OBS recommends Ethernet when Wi-Fi instability may be involved. If a wired test is steadier, the Wi-Fi leg deserves attention; that result alone does not establish that the cable or JioFiber’s wider route is at fault.

Check software that can interfere

OBS lists VPNs, firewalls or antivirus software, network prioritization or “optimization” utilities, and outdated network drivers among possible causes. If you suspect security software, use a temporary test only: confirm whether it is interfering, add an OBS exception if appropriate, and re-enable protection. Do not leave protection disabled.

Restart and inspect the network path

For general connectivity trouble, OBS suggests restarting the modem or router. Check cables and equipment, and consult your ISP before replacing hardware. The right router interface and labels depend on the device and firmware; without those details there is no reliable JioFiber-specific menu path to prescribe. The documented OBS guidance does not call for opening inbound ports or forwarding ports for ordinary outbound streaming.

When only viewers are affected

If OBS’s counter remains stable, use YouTube Live Control Room to check the stream’s health and warnings, then compare the affected viewer’s playback with another device or connection. A stream can reach YouTube successfully while an individual viewer’s network or device struggles to play it. YouTube’s latency setting is a tradeoff: lower latency can mean more playback buffering, so test it rather than assuming it will solve buffering. See YouTube’s latency settings guidance.

Collect evidence before contacting JioFiber support

If bitrate reduction, a wired test, and relevant software and network checks do not resolve broadcaster-side dropped frames, OBS recommends contacting the ISP with details; routing or congestion may be outside your control. Record:

  • When the problem occurred and how long it lasted.
  • The OBS log and the dropped-frame percentage.
  • Your selected bitrate, resolution, and frame rate.
  • Whether OBS was connected over Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
  • Any YouTube Live Control Room stream-health warning.
  • Whether the same stream behaved differently using another server, service, or connection, if you tested one.

This helps support distinguish a local wireless or software issue from a problem that may lie farther along the connection. The OBS and YouTube guidance cited here does not establish a current JioFiber outage or a JioFiber-specific performance figure.
