For a compatible Intel mini PC, start with OBS’s Tools → Auto Configuration Wizard, then try H.264, CBR, 720p at 30 fps, 8 Mbps video bitrate, a 2-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS. Use stereo AAC at 128 kbps if available. This is a cautious starting configuration, not a performance guarantee: confirm Quick Sync (QSV) appears in OBS, test the actual scene and connection, and watch YouTube’s stream health before relying on it.
Start with a tested baseline
The recommended settings below combine YouTube’s current H.264 ingestion guidance with a lower-demand resolution and frame rate than 1080p60. YouTube’s bitrate figures are recommendations for sending a stream to YouTube, not proof that a particular mini PC or internet connection can sustain it.

These platform recommendations are from YouTube Help’s live encoder settings (current guidance accessed October 3, 2026). In OBS, exact menu names and available choices can vary by version and encoder.
Check that Quick Sync is actually available
An Intel processor label alone does not establish that OBS can use QSV. Check the encoder choices on the specific mini PC after installing current graphics drivers. OBS documents QSV support on Windows and Linux with Intel HD Graphics on Core-i 2xxx (Sandy Bridge) or newer, and recommends Core-i 4xxx (Haswell) or newer because earlier QSV generations had lower image quality. - If an Intel QSV H.264 option appears, select it and test it.
- If it does not appear, update the Intel graphics driver, restart, and check again. Hardware, operating system, or configuration may still prevent QSV from being offered.
- If the mini PC also has NVIDIA or AMD graphics, OBS generally advises using the primary graphics adapter’s encoder instead.
- Do not infer streaming performance from encoder availability: OBS notes that workload depends on encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. See OBS system requirements.
Configure and test the stream in OBS
- Run the wizard: choose Tools → Auto Configuration Wizard. Treat its result as a starting point, not a substitute for testing the intended scene.
- Set the output: open Settings → Output, choose an output mode that exposes the streaming encoder controls, and select Intel QSV H.264 if it is available. Set rate control to CBR, bitrate to 8000 Kbps, and keyframe interval to 2 seconds. OBS may present these controls differently across versions.
- Set video: open Settings → Video and set the output resolution to 1280 × 720 and common FPS value to 30. If your base canvas is different, make sure the output resolution is still the intended 720p size.
- Set audio: use AAC stereo at 128 Kbps where OBS provides those controls. Include the actual microphones, program audio, or other sources you plan to stream.
- Connect YouTube: in YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream and obtain its stream key. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube or the available YouTube ingest service, and enter or connect the key as prompted. Keep the key private; anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your stream.
- Use RTMPS: select the YouTube RTMPS server or ingest option if OBS asks you to choose a server or protocol.
- Run a private or otherwise appropriate test: use representative movement and audio, then check YouTube’s stream health and OBS for dropped frames or encoder overload. YouTube specifically advises testing with audio and movement similar to the real stream.
Keep the mini PC on power and prevent sleep during a test. A brief static scene may not reveal problems that appear with scrolling text, animation, rapid movement, layered sources, browser captures, or multiple audio inputs.
Choose a bitrate that your upload can sustain
YouTube’s H.264 recommendations vary by resolution and frame rate. The figures below are recommended video bitrates; YouTube’s stated minimums are not a target for a stable stream.

Allow upload headroom beyond the video bitrate for audio and network variation; a speed-test result alone does not guarantee continuous capacity to YouTube. If stream health indicates instability or OBS reports network-dropped frames, try a lower resolution or frame rate and test again.
YouTube also lists separate recommendations for AV1 and H.265/HEVC. Those codecs are not automatically available through every QSV generation or OBS setup. For this straightforward baseline, use H.264 unless your actual encoder menu and workflow support another YouTube-compatible codec.

What changes the result on a mini PC?
- QSV generation and drivers: newer supported hardware is preferable to the earliest QSV generations, and current graphics drivers matter.
- Scene complexity and motion: more sources and complex motion can raise system load. Validate the scene you will actually broadcast.
- Upload stability: the connection must sustain the outgoing stream. If it cannot, lowering resolution or frame rate reduces the recommended bitrate requirement.
- Other graphics hardware: on systems with a discrete NVIDIA or AMD adapter, OBS generally advises using the primary adapter’s encoder rather than assuming QSV is the best choice.
There is no single setting that establishes whether every mini PC can stream smoothly at 1080p or 60 fps. The cited guidance describes platform settings and compatibility, not sustained performance for a particular model. Verify the exact CPU and integrated graphics, current driver, OBS encoder availability, and real workload on your machine.

Quick Sync is missing from the encoder list
Check whether the mini PC’s Intel graphics and operating system meet OBS’s documented compatibility guidance, update the graphics driver, restart, and inspect the encoder list again. If a discrete GPU is present, consider the primary graphics adapter’s encoder. If QSV still is not exposed, use an encoder that is available rather than assuming the Intel CPU guarantees QSV support.

OBS fails to start the QSV encoder
Update the Intel graphics driver and restart. Intel documents a specific OBS QuickSync H.264 encoder-start failure involving Intel UHD Graphics 730, particularly in hybrid-graphics systems. For that case, Intel recommends updating the driver, ensuring OBS is configured to run on the integrated GPU when using QSV, and restarting after the update. YouTube reports poor stream health or OBS drops frames
First distinguish network-dropped frames from rendering or encoding lag in OBS. Network drops point toward an unstable or insufficient upload path; reduce output resolution or frame rate and retest. Rendering or encoding lag points toward system or scene load; simplify the scene, close unnecessary workloads, and test again. Do not raise bitrate beyond what the upload can sustain.

The stream works in a simple test but fails during the real program
Repeat the test with the real scene complexity, movement, and audio sources. A wizard’s suggested configuration or an idle desktop test cannot account for every workload, and YouTube recommends testing before the event and monitoring stream health while live.
