For a prerecorded video streamed through OBS to YouTube at 1440p60, set the output to 2560×1440 at 60 fps, use CBR, and set a 2-second keyframe interval. Choose the bitrate for your outgoing codec: YouTube recommends 34 Mbps for H.264 or 24 Mbps for AV1/H.265 at this resolution and frame rate. Your upload connection must sustain the full stream bitrate with headroom; these are YouTube ingest recommendations, not a guarantee of viewer-side quality.
Recommended OBS settings for 1440p60
Use this baseline when the prerecorded source, encoder, and internet connection can sustain it. OBS control names and available encoder options vary by version and hardware; choose the closest matching controls in your installed version.
| Setting | Recommended value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Output resolution | 2560×1440 | Use 60 fps if your source and system can sustain it. |
| Frame rate | 60 fps | YouTube accepts live frame rates up to 60 fps. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube recommends constant bitrate for live ingest. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Codec and video bitrate | H.264: 34 Mbps recommended; 8 Mbps minimum. AV1 or H.265/HEVC: 24 Mbps recommended; 6 Mbps minimum. |
These are YouTube’s 1440p60 ingest figures. Match the bitrate to the codec actually selected in OBS. |
| SDR color | Rec. 709, 8-bit | YouTube’s SDR guidance also specifies progressive scan and square pixels. |
| Stereo audio | AAC or MP3, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz | For 5.1 audio, YouTube lists AAC at 48 kHz and 384 kbps. |
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS where available | RTMPS is the encrypted version of RTMP. |
Bitrate figures are from YouTube’s encoder settings table, accessed 2026-10-03. Use the recommended value only if your connection can hold it reliably. Do not substitute a generic 1080p bitrate or assume that 1440p output forces a particular playback codec or visible improvement for viewers.
Set up the prerecorded video as a YouTube Live event
The video file is prerecorded, but when OBS sends it to a YouTube Live event, the outgoing feed follows YouTube’s live encoder ingest requirements. The media source’s playback and looping controls are separate from the stream’s bitrate, codec, and keyframe settings.

- POWERHOUSE 8-CORE GAMING PERFORMANCE — Driven by the AMD Ryzen 7 8700F with 8 cores and 16 threads, boosting up to 5.0 GHz for smooth, responsive gameplay and the ability to handle AAA titles, streaming, and background tasks all at once
- NEXT-GEN BLACKWELL ARCHITECTURE — The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 is powered by NVIDIA's cutting-edge Blackwell GPU architecture, delivering a massive generational leap in rasterization and ray tracing performance so you can experience your games the way they were meant to be played.
- Simplistic Design: Enjoy the latest generation of Windows 11 Home for your everyday needs. *MSI recommends Windows 11 Pro for business use.
- Cool While Gaming: In conjunction with an ARGB fan Air Cooler, the Codex R2 features four system cooling fans; three in the front and one in the rear to pull in cool air and push heat out of the PC.
- Turn on the Bright Lights: With the built-in RGB lighting, take your gaming experience to the next level by pressing the MSI LED button to cycle through lighting options. Customize lighting even further with MSI Center software.
- Prepare the source. Confirm the video file plays correctly and its frame rate and dimensions are suitable for the intended 2560×1440, 60 fps output. Build the OBS scene and set up the media source using the controls available in your OBS version. Source-specific adding, looping, and timing controls are not covered by YouTube’s encoder-setting guidance, so verify them in the current OBS interface or documentation.
- Set the outgoing encoder values. Configure 2560×1440 at 60 fps, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and the codec-specific bitrate above. Set the appropriate SDR color and audio format if those controls are exposed by your encoder.
- Create or schedule the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream using an encoder. Copy the event’s stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming configuration. Treat the stream key as a secret; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to the event.
- Start the encoder and check preview. Start streaming from OBS, then wait for the feed to appear in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm that the intended video and audio are present before starting the event for viewers.
- Start and monitor the event. Start the live event from Live Control Room at the planned time. Keep an eye on stream health and audio/video throughout, and verify any local recording or archive is intact afterward. YouTube says scheduled streams can be promoted and viewers can receive reminders.
For official encoder parameters, see YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate guidance. For event creation, stream URL and key, scheduling, and preview, see YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
Check upload bandwidth and test before going live
YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; the reviewed guidance page does not state a publication year. Include the entire outgoing bitrate, including audio, and account for other traffic using the same connection. A speed test is useful, but one result cannot establish that the connection will remain stable throughout a long event.

- CPU: AMD Ryzen7 5700X (up to 4.6GHz) 8-Core 16-Thread to easily handle multi-line tasks
- Main board: MSI B550M-A PRO motherboard provides reliable performance and stability
- GPU: Geforce RTX 5060 8GB GDDR7 Graphics Cards (Brand may vary) Support DLSS 4 multi frame generation, ray tracing, and Reflex 2 delay optimization
- RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz (16GB*2) SSD: 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe
- Power supply: 650W (80plus bronze) certified for energy efficiency and stable performance
- Plan the encoder event at least two hours ahead.
- Start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health.
- Test representative movement and audio, rather than checking only a static frame or silent opening.
- Confirm any local archive is recording correctly.
These timing and test recommendations come from YouTube’s streaming tips, accessed 2026-10-03.
Troubleshoot common 1440p60 stream problems
Stream health reports instability or dropped frames
The upload connection may not sustain the selected bitrate, especially when other traffic shares it. Recheck sustained upload capacity, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and reduce the outgoing bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot hold the target reliably. Do not assume a brief speed test proves stability.

YouTube does not receive the feed
Check that OBS is using the stream URL and key for the correct YouTube event, and that the key was copied accurately. Start the encoder and wait for the Live Control Room preview; the feed must arrive before you can verify it there.
Video looks wrong or the preview is blank
Check that the OBS scene contains the intended media source, that the file is available and playing, and that the output resolution and frame rate are set as intended. Source playback behavior is distinct from YouTube ingest settings, so a correct bitrate cannot fix a missing or stalled media source.

Audio is missing or out of sync
Check that the intended audio source is active in OBS and that the feed’s audio format matches YouTube’s guidance: stereo AAC or MP3 at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz, or the specified AAC settings for 5.1. Test representative audio before the event and confirm it in the preview.
The stream reaches YouTube but the selected settings are not accepted
Confirm that the chosen codec is supported both by the OBS encoder available on your system and by the YouTube stream configuration. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; use the matching bitrate recommendation for the codec you actually send.
